duckydoty Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I didnt notice that the water was off today untill around noon. I was out doing arrands and still had a few to finish up, but after one call to the current generation number I decided the chores would have to be cut short. Got down to the boat ramp around 3 p.m. and fished from the old KOA down to just above Fall Creek. Threw nothing but crackle backs at the dimples in the water which were everywhere. Had fish chasing on just about every cast and numerous hookups. Just before dark the horn blew and water started rising right about the time it was getting too dark to see. I ended up with several fish to hand in the 14 to 16 inch range. All fought well and took off immediately upon release. I did notice a few dead fish in the water. Hopefully we will stop seeing that soon. Size 16 crackle backs in a light brown color seemed to work best for me. Just before the sun went down under the tree line down by Point Royal, I looked up stream and saw clouds of light colored midges rising into the air catching the last few rays of sunlight. Literally hundreds of thousands that looked like fog. I wonder what the fish are eating???? I hope the Corps gets into the habit of shutting the water down to give us a few more days like today. duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Tightline Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Your sure right about the midges DD,when I left 4:30 if you tried to breath with your mouth open you'd have a dozen midges in it.I was there most of the day and ended up with 40.I caught em on ginger and olive woolies, a black leech and a white slumpbuster. The slumpbuster seemed to catch better quality, but still no biguns. I took a picture of a small hole of water that was full of scuds, sowbugs and worms.I had to cut the picture way down so you could see them better,it was just amazing to me how much fish food there was in that little puddle. Had a good time. Thanks for your report DD.

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 26, 2008 Root Admin Posted November 26, 2008 DD= didn't see you on the lake. Sounds like we should have crossed paths. The trout where we were just wouldn't look at hardly anything we were throwing. I did not try a crackleback though. Thought about it. There are tons of light sow bug and scuds all over the place on the flats below Lookout. The trout were rummaging around in the gravel close to the bank- some with their backs out of the water. I usually can fool them then they're feeding like that but they had he baffled tonight.
