I had the pleasure to fish with Phil yesterday on upper Taney. We started about noon thirty at the big hole and worked our way down to the boat ramp. We were targeting midging fish in the shallows, but the fish were not really midging at all. Phil finally got the first hook up and fish to hand about an hour into fishing. It took me a little longer to make a solid connection with a fish. Phil had to work as my spotter. The fishing was extremely slow from the Big Hole down through the Rocking Chair. I was throwing soft hackles and small crackle backs, Phil was throwing midges. We started picking up more fish as we worked the rocky bank on the way from Rocking Chair to the boat ramp. That stretch saved us or at least me from a skunk. We stopped fishing about 3:30 and I ended up with 5 or 6 fish.

At a little after 4:00 p.m. DD'sMC showed up and was ready to fish. I had her rigged up for night fishing with an indicator and heavier line so she did not do so good until it started getting dark. Once it got dark, she was unstoppable.

I picked up a few more fish on the flats below outlet 1 before it got dark on a black soft hackle. The fish were midging like crazy up there. One fish charged the fly just as soon as it hit the water from more than 10 feet away. The water was turned on at dark and I switched to the lighted indicator. DD'sMC and I fished the rising water till about 7 p.m. We caught several fish while the water came up. Once the water topped out the bite was off.

What started out as a slow day ended with a bang and as always any day fishing is better than a day working!

Great post! I certainly enjoyed catching fish with duckydoty. I really appreciated his help in getting me to set the hook at just the right time ;) . The fish were on fire for the dark gray sowbug as the water level was rising. We caught a few fattys --with a couple between 16" and 19", really healthy fish with a lot of fight. Once again, when the sun went down, we had the whole place to ourselves.

Bundle up boys, and get out there and catch a few!!!

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.

Had a great time. Fishing is fishing. Sorry I missed MC.

I video'ed Duane cast and strip and I was going to post it BUT I didn't check my camera lens- had a couple of spots on it. When will I ever learn to check the lens on my cameras. I miss more shots.
