bassman1308 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Is there a special line ( mono or florocarbon ) you use that has less memory than the lines I've been using. BPS EX-CEL, P-LINE, AND SEAGAR in 10 to 15 lb. Haven't tried any new lines the last couple years so maybe a new & improved product has come out. Is there an easy way to get the curls out without respooling every week ? I've tried Vandams spray but it doesn't seem to help. I've tried streaching my line ( works fairly good ). However, with 10 reels, that's rather time consuming and besides, I usually don't plan that far ahead. : - )
cotterboy2007 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I have always been a maxima guy, but tried suffix elite last year and had good luck with it
Larry Richards Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I have always been a maxima guy, but tried suffix elite last year and had good luck with it Here are the new lines that I really like and now use.... Mono... Suffix is the smoothest casting mono line I have ever used with great knot strength. The only thing I dont like is that it seems to get brittle in real cold weather when the ice is forming on the guides, and I have had problems with fish breaking off on the hook set under those conditions. Fluorocarbon...I use Berkley 100% on my baitcasting reels and Spider wire 100% on my spinning reels they are very good Fluorocarbon lines. Here is a Product Review I did on the Spider Wire 100% I was able to field test the new Spider Wire 100% fluorocarbon before its release..It is the softest smoothest casting, designed to eliminate memory as far as fluorocarbon lines go due to its smaller Dia..Its super tough with great knot strength and smaller dia. than other fluorocarbons its 8lb line is the dia. of other 6lb lines.Spiderwire Ultracast 100% fluorocarbon line will have a little less stretch, but greater strength per diameter. It is now on the market and has addressed the problems that most fluorocarbons have had in the past.If your not satisfied with the fluorocarbon you are now using Give it a try you will like it.About $17 t0 $20 for a 200 yrd spool.
techo Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I second the Maxima vote. I always go back to it after trying one of the new lines. Knot strength is good, you often straighten a jig hook before breaking the line. I know it is a personal preference thing, but mot folks who fish with me end up putting Maxima on their reels Tim Carpenter
bassman1308 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Thanks to all: I used Maxima when it first came out many years ago and remember it being very strong but a little stiff but i may give it another try. I've heard suffix was a low memory line and may try it also. I'll probably try them all. It's fun to experiment. Thanks again
