phil,

i was curious if you are having any trout tournaments this year?

i remember last year -- there was a pretty good buzz about them with trav and all.

i'm trying to plan a weekend to bring the family down this winter, and thought this might be the ideal time.

we'd probably fish with bait, which might preclude us from any prizes but i thought my oldest might like to be around the excitement.

thanks

When u click the link above that Phil posted, go to that page and click on 2009 Masters Trout Tournament and/or the 2009 Team Trout Tournament and it will pop up and tell you.

And Phil, how many entries have that last tourneys been getting? Just a thought

These tournaments have been alot of fun in the past. They are very well organized and there is usually a dinner afterwards. I recomend trying them even if you do not think you would do well. It seems like a anyone out there is a keeper brown away from winning since very few brown trout are ever wieghed in. You seem to meet alot of different types of trout fisherman. Plus there is not much else to do outdoors on a January or February weekend.

Wait, the rules say "All MO game and fish laws will be enforced." This, however, is a C&R tourney. I know there is a law on the books that strictly bans culling of fish, except for a bona-fide C&R tournament. So is culling allowed during the tournament, or do you have to make the keep or release decision immediately?

Thanks,

Rob

Culling at these tournament has drawn some interesting discussion on this forum. Because trout tournaments are not covered by MDC's rules for culling, it is not lawful... but no one has been penalized for culling at any trout tournament on Taneycomo that I know of.

So I'm guessing it probably wouldn't be advisable.

Also, how many people usual enter the tourney, and what does it normally take to finish in the money? I've never fished a tourney before, and just wanna make sure I'm not getting in over my head.

25-35 boats or teams. If you have over 8 pounds (8 trout), usually you're in the money.
