jscheetz Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Went to RR today - thought - it's Monday, 60 plus degrees, the week between Christmas and New Years so I can get away - - - - Apparently that wasn't an original idea! hehehehehehehehe Fishing was pretty good - did OK on midges and SJWs earlier in the day - wasn't on fire but decent - then I switched to using Griffiths gnats in the afternoon and did real well with those - more fun on top anyway - but they were pretty picky - couldn't get them to take it in the non moving water unless it was 7x Which means I lose more flies - spend more time retying tippet etc etc - I really hate 7x...... but I digress - it DID catch fish so.... But man, it was crowded! When I drove up the stream in the afternoon there was at least two people in every pool from Dry Hollow to the Spring - Thought I got my dates confused and accidentally came down on opening day!! Sure was a nice day to be out - lots of eagles flying overhead - caught a good amount of fish - no big ones except had one really big guy on - sight fished him and drifted my fly right by him a couple of times and he ignored it - tried one more time and he took me by surprise and turned and sucked it in - I was watching eagles or something - set the hook and had him for a second, my heart skipped and he rolled over and spit me out ...... never think you are NOT going to get bit - that is how they lull you into their ways....... Anyway - good day to fish (is there a bad one?) Flysmallie Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 There were a lot of people there today. I had a busy morning but decided to head down early afternoon. I was really surprised at the amount of people. I didn't do too well today. I had planned on sight fishing but there were just too many people and a lot of spooked fish up top. Oh well, I will be down again on Friday with my daughter. Hopefully I can get her hooked up with a nice fish. Wish I would have known some of you guys were there.
