This is somewhat off topic. I love using Power Pro on my spinning reels (less line twist AND no memory), but I use a Uni knot. I can tie a mean Uni at home when I pre-rig, but once on the water it is not an easy knot. Does anyone see a loss in knot strength when using a palomar knot with braid?

I use a palomar with power pro. Knot strength is fine, just like mono or flouro. You just may want to double it up if you are using really small diameter, because it will have a tendancy to slide around the eye of the hook. It's never happened to me, but I believe it could be possible to slip through the gap where the end of the eye meets the shank. Power Pro is great. I don't even use a leader. I've seen fish in gin clear water swim right past my line to eat my lure. I'm not saying they can't see it, but they aren't trout, and I'm not sure smallmouth really care. They see food, they want food, they eat food. Finicky winter smallmouth may be different, we'll find out in a few months.

An Allbright is the one to use, just be sure and do a half hitch on each end and a spot of glue. The PP is slick and that's the reason for the extras. This knot is very close to 100%, if not a full 100%.

I've put it to the test with some really big cats and carp and it held fine. I broke 20# Flouroclear one time below the Allbright.

If I am wading, I would rather not have to use glue. If I pre-rig for big cats, then I will look into the Albright.

On a side note, I like P-Line Floroclear for both baitcasters and spinning reels. An improved clinch knot works well. But for heavier test on my spinning gear, I would rather have the small diameter that Power Pro offers.

Thanks for the advice,

You're apparently using the Flouroclear different than I do. I use about 8' of it, not only for stealth, but to prevent breaking my braid. If I have a problem when I'm fishing I blood knot a piece of Flouroclear to itself temporarily.

I'm a big P-Line fan. Of all the lines easily obtainable here I think its tops. The premium CX is my favorite and has the thinnest diameter, but it isn't as abrasion resistant as Flouroclear.

Actually I use Floroclear two ways (check the spelling, small detail but it is Floroclear). I envy you guys that can just throw a difficult knot together on the fly like that (I know a blood knot is nothing more than two clinch knots, but I only have two not so nimble hands). I will stick with pre-rigging a uni knot for braid or use a palomar knot on the go for braid. For the Floroclear, I will stick with the improved clinch knot. When I get into trout fishing in the future, I am sure I will get comfortable with all the knots.

With my spin reel that I have Power Pro on, I tie a small swivel and then a 2 - 4 foot leader of floroclear. This would be for weightless worms, soft jerkbaits and shakey head to prevent twist. Actually, the swivel acts sort of like a drop shot with the worms and I have had a lot of success with this set-up.

I also just spool up my other spin reel (I have more than two, but only two are quality combos). I keep 1 spool with 10 to 12 pound and another spare spool with 4 pound. Have I said I really like Floroclear!!!

Well now we know who is paying attention and who ain't. Darn spell check.

I don't tie a true blood knot, but a knot that has similar results that I came up with about 50 years ago. Its much easier to tie than a true blood and it works well mono to mono. I can't really say how it works with Fluorocarbon, although it works with the small stuff.

I fish a lot of braid, TUF XP mostly, and when I'm in a canoe or kayak I want something easier to break off than 15 or 20 lb braid. That's when I like a long leader of something like Floroclear. I'm with you on the complicated angle, I wouldn't attempt an Allbright streamside.
