Has anyone ever caught a walleye out of tanycomo? I figured there has to be a few released in there once in awhile, or wash in from Table rock. Or maybe they jump over powersite dam like salmon. Just curious.

I know that Leonard caught some this fall during all of the high water and they were very tasty.

Not sure if there is a real good population though.

Don't think we do at all. I firmly believe the walleye and bass that were caught this summer came over Table Rock Dam during the flooding. Most were caught out. Some are still below the dam but not many. Some I'm sure migrated downstream.

There's been alot of discussion in previous topics about this subject. Stripers and other fish survive the fall at Beaver each time their flood gates are opened so why wouldn't smaller fish like walleye and bass? The gates were opened just at the right time to catch walleye at the dam face spawning.

I would make any trips to Taney to target walleye. Bass- that's another thing. Good bass fishing on Taney but I'd fish the lower lake.

I figured any walleye catchs in Tany would be accidental. Ill be down there in a couple weeks to catch some trout and do a little night fishing at powersite just in case a few walleye show up. Might try for some largemouth on the lower end also. Probably fish bull shoals a little just to see whats biting. Hope the weathers good.

I actually think there may be enough ice up here to hit a shallow pond or two this morning. We shall see. If i do i will report.

In the early 80s walleye were not so unusual. Although, up until the floods, last year I am sure there wasn't any at all. Phil is correct when he says those which came over the dam are pretty much played. I wouldn't say they were caught out though. Keep in mind a walleye can migrate eighty miles a week. With powersite being an overflow dam, most would have likely took the dive into Bull Shoals.

Another note, Taney can not maintain a sustainable population of walleye anyway. Back in the 70s and 80s there were much larger stocking numbers of smaller trout (fingerlings) to at least feed the walleye. Walleye stocking was minimal but back then it did exist on a small scale. I am afraid the attempt to add walleye to the lake fell into the same dilemma as the trout. I like to call it Fish Bowl Syndrome. Without constant stocking, the population simply doesn't survive.

I do not know why the stocking of walleye was phased out some thirty years ago, but I would assume it had to do with the walleye migration habits. Maybe Missouri didn't want to waste their money to stock Arkansas(Bull Shoals). A walleye in the summer will follow a food source along the coast of Michigan from Chicago to the St. Clair river. Which is well over a thousand miles. Little old Powersite can never corral an instinct like this.

Haha

I have been here all along. Just lurking around and watching.

I have noticed I am now a 'MADE' individual of the OAF organized fishing syndicate.

Must have been a pro tempore thing since it is stated in past tense.

Unless the order is out that I have to be 'whacked' and nobody wants to do the paperwork twice.

I am so confused. Do I need to pay this months morgage payment or can I just spend it all on beer instead?

^_^:lol::P

The Forsyth Bass club released some walleye into Taney about 10-15 years ago, wallys they had caught while bass fishing Bull.

And even before that my nephew seen Wallys up in Bullcreek while gigging right in the dead of winter.

I think there has always been a small population in there around the Bullcreek area and lower end.

Yeah I firmly agree with Lilley and Trav. Here's what I caught while vertical jigging a spoon in mid June of 2008 out of Taneycomo. The fish probably entered Taney over the table rock dam during the heavy flooding. I got this fish mounted and it went 27" & weighed 6.96lbs. The other picture is a fat 4lb 9oz bronzeback that was caught on the same trip using a black/olive 1/8th oz maribou jig in 12' water column and she was released unharmed of course.
