Terry Beeson Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 My lovely bride and I went for a Sunday afternoon road trip and wound up going down 39 from Aurora and going to cut over on 248 to Roaring River. We passed a sign about fishing access (best I can tell from the map and my memory it was Stubblefield) and decided to make a detour. We got there and I took some photos. Noticed some midging going on, but not sure there are trout in this stream. Also, when I looked at Google Maps sattellite image, there seems to be some things like buildings missing (maybe due to the flood last spring.) MDC site says this area is "closed due to flood damage." But looks like a nice place to spend an afternoon this spring or summer. Anyone know anything about this area and the fishing? timsfly Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 It is a wonderful placed best enjoyed in the fall, winter and early spring, the drug people and drunks take it over in the summer time, it is a shame but it is a place I won't go without a gun, in the spring or summer, you might see anything. It is a great place to put in a canoe, but I wouldn't park a vehicle there. KCRIVERRAT Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Never had a problem on Flat Creek from the 39 bridge to EE. Looking forward to EE to the take out just above the lake. Nice smallies every trip. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
ollie Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Wow, and I thought some places in Okie land were bad! "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

I wonder just what goes on in the park during summer? I don't know... maybe I've just been lucky to enjoy great fishing and conditions every time I've floated Flat Creek. Again... thanks for the trespassing info by the cemetary. I'm stopping by the hatchery this weekend and I'm fishing from Muncy upstream. Recognized where the "Epic Trip" boys were and they should have been upstream a 1/4 mile or more! HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
mhall02 Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Used to fish upstream of there a few miles. A few nice holes that held channel cat, smallmouth, and goggle eye. Funny thing, my Dad even caught a rainbow trout there one spring, apparently an escapee from a private hatchery at the headwater (in Cassville). Don't know if the hatchery is still there, but it was a fun place to fish as a kid. I think the water is too warm during the summer for trout.
Terry Beeson Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Thanks for the input, ya'll. Too bad about the conditions in the summer. This could be a nice family spot for a day on the river. I may have to be sure and check it out this spring. I'd like to get into some good smallie and goggle-eye action. Another question... Were there buildings of some kind there before the flood? duckydoty Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I know there was a Civil War camp there in the field by the hwy 39 bridge. I went metal detecting there several yrs ago with permission from the land owner and found several 69 cal. musket balls and some 32 cal. balls also. timsfly Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 The float from stubblefield to EE is great, some nice smallmouth in there. I will put in at stubblefield, but I wouldn't leave a rig there, it gets rough in there sometimes, there have been lots of fights, lots of arrests down there and they found a body down there last year, so it is best fished in broad daylight. EE doesn't seem to get that kind of attention, I guess because it is right on the hwy, and right out in the open, I fish down that way quite a bit in the summer, There is some good fishing down there. Right there in Jenkins it gets a bit crowded also in the summer, but when it is 90+ outside you are going to have people swimming, but the fishing is worth it. DD'sMC Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Great pictures Terry! We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
