BlueWave Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 ZHoyt, We are practically neighbors..........My camp is across from the sail boats (East side of the cove) and back up the creek. You are right about the smallmouths. I have been surprised at how good the bass fishing was this summer/fall. Have not found any crappie but Might of been the high water. Best Striper this year was 25 lbs out of Honey Creek in September.
Zack Hoyt Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Pretty close BW. We are back in the cove SW of the SailClub. I have kayaked all over the coves there North of the club(in your area probably). That standing timber holds some serious Crappie when the water is right. Mr. Ed Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Who did you have mount the fish, and could you post a picture of the mount? My mount was done by Terry’s Taxidermy. They’re in Oklahoma… can’t remember the town. If you google it you can find them. Like I said I was a bit reluctant to get a mount not knowing even where it was going but then I figured… what the heck. Mine took forever as well… like 8 months I think. When it did finally come I was sent the wrong mount. They got the shipping label mixed up and sent me one that went 43#... now that thing was a beast. We got things squared away and I got my fish which I actually like better then the bigger one. I don’t have any pictures handy… both really nice mounts though.
bobber Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 i'm on the other end .... in the war eagle arm... point 12 .. stripers are here now! large schools and everyone is trolling after the flocks of birds for the last week. <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Members Wildeye Posted January 24, 2009 Members Posted January 24, 2009 Hey guys, love the board. I only get over to Beaver about once or twice a year, but it is always a big trip when we go. I live about 5 hours away in western OK. Last year was rough on us, had to move campsites twice due to the high waters, then when we got one we had a tornado blow through to close for comfort. We stuck around and fished and ended up catching some nice stripers, nothing over 14lbs though. Planning my trip this year around the middle of March. We always stay down around Hickory, as the water levels allow, but have thought about expanding our horizons, in fact I dont believe we have ever made it out on the main body of water. I always keep an eye out here, dont often have much to say unless you are fishing down south, but if anyone ever fishes the western half of OK let me know and i can help you out. Tight Lines.
jay bird Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 We keep everyone posting we will have a ton of reports as fishing get going this Spring.
Members Wildeye Posted January 24, 2009 Members Posted January 24, 2009 I will be there March 16 to the 20th, will have reports shortly after that. Plan to stay around Hickory and work my way up the rivers. If the linesiders dont cooperate i will chase crappie, smallies or anything that bites. Will post a report for sure.
Members LarryC Posted January 24, 2009 Members Posted January 24, 2009 Wildeye, you may want to check with the park before you come in March. They are burying new electric lines, along with a bunch of other excavation work...maybe a new dump station. When I was pulling the boat out Thursday a herd of contractors descended on the restroom by the ramp. Think they may be tearing it up next. You can also shoot me a PM and I’ll tell you what I’m seeing. Making Beaver Lake safe for all the little fish...one striper at a time.
jay bird Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 A couple of years ago there was a great white bass top water bass bite in the evening about a 1/2 mile up war eagle. Only got to go once and it was really fun, but all the people that we talked to said you should of been there a couple of days before they said it was unreal how many white bass they caught.
