Ok, I made a really rough flyer. If anyone has any suggestions please tell me as I have never made a flyer for a stream nor have I seen a model that I could base one on. I don't know if a meeting is necessary, or at least mandatory meetings were everyone has to show up. I think a great initial meeting would be for us to create a post on this forum for concern areas, how we could address them and were they are located. This way, everyone could get there on their own schedule and not have to sacrifice work or family time. If anyone thinks that this could work let me know. I am going down to Hickory next tues or thurs during the day unless hell freezes over. Tell me what you think of my flyer, where I need to make improvements etc. and whether an online meeting would work.

Like your ideas Travis. I'm used to working with "virtual teams" where folks are scattered all over the place, so online meetings work fine for me. I would look forward to getting to know my fellow team members during our first clean-up, and perhaps a short meeting could be combined with that. I'll play with the flyer a little. Hope I can figure out how to attach any revision I might make.

Travis, if you have already signed up with the MDC let me know, otherwise I will complete the registration later tonight. Anyone wanting on the list please let me know so I can include you in on the activities. If anyone needs anything concerning the stream just give me a pm and I will shoot you a cell number you can reach me at.

I've tinkered with the flyer/announcement Travis drafted and it's attached (I hope). Anyone else that wants to take a crack should, but let me share some of my thinking. I tried not to put too much about fishing in there. Two reasons: those that enjoy fishing Hickory should quickly get it, and I think we also want team members who enjoy other activities on the stream, be it hiking, biking, etc. It may be we have some people who want to join and help that may not be able to wade the stream, climb rocks, and other rigorous activities. I suspect as we get organized there will be other opportunities besides physical work. Maybe even financial support for supplies or improvements. At some point we may want to consider some business support or sponsorship though I say this without knowing if it is permissable.

Once the final version of the flyer is agreed upon, I would be happy to distribute in KC area also. We now have two Bass Pro Shops in the metro area plus Cabella's. I'm sure we have a few local flyshops too. Anybody up for being a co-contact with Travis on the flyer? Should the contact info include email addressess?

Well, you might as well add my info to the document too since I only live a few blocks away. I wasn't able to get ahold of the Hatchery manager today, but I will try again tomorrow. I think the "Friends of the Neosho Hatchery" will be able to help us out also when I get ahold of them as well.

Kent, I have not yet signed us up with MDC, if you could complete that later tonight that would be greatly appreciated. Mark, that was great. If you need an email address then put me down, travis.gardner@live.com I like your idea on attracting more than just fisherman as we could use all the help we can get. I think that the online meetings will be great for our team as we are all used to this format and we all have different schedules. Lets get the list going so that things go smoothly for Kent. Count me in. I dont fish it a lot, but it would be nice to have it cleaned up and taken care of. Maybe the hatchery would do more stocking if the city takes an interest in the stream.

Great work Mark and Travis on the flier. I think when we get it completed we can all print our own copies and post them in each of the many Wal-Mart stores and Southtown and Academy Sports, not to mention we might be able to get it to run in one or both of the local papers(Neosho Daily News and The Joplin Globe) along with the date that we decide on for the first cleanup.

Ollie, you are going to be a great help too with all of your connections.

Glad you are on board Fishin', we'll need all of the help we can get.

If you need another e-mail address I will gladly donate mine to the cause, mrbuzib1@aol.com. If you need another phone number let me know by PM. I'm really excited about the possibilities here.

Alright, here is a progress report. I have officialy signed up as a stream team. I say "I" because I need others to pm me some info about themselves. It's no big deal, it's more for updates from the state and emailing info about events, plus we can get freebies for our clean-up efforts. I could not reach Dave at the hatchery becasue he has been away. I'll try that avenue on Monday again. I was informed however that there is another stream team for Hickory Creek. The High School. I don't know what the school has done lately, but I'm thinking of coordinating something with them also. More people would be great! In my opion, the biggest problem for the stream is the city. The city has been planning and developing options for rain run-off for decades. Remember, everytime it rains it ALL goes into Hickory in the end. That was planned to eliminate property damage and flooding on the north end of town. That is why the city bought out so much property. They weren't thinking of making Hickory pretty, just functional for heavy rains. To me, that is a very big battle that we won't win. City flooding verses the creek will win the city everytime in this town. That being said, I still think there is a lot of improvments that can be done and I think that a lot of people on this board are up to it.

Good job. I've attached the latest version of the flyer, changing the part about this being the "first" Hickory Creek Stream Team since the HS beat us to it. Also added Ollie's info to the contacts, so it's ready to go unless someone wants to make improvements. I know zero about flood control, but if a decision is made to expand the scope of the project, there are some options that could be explored. As Ollie points out, keeping the residents and their homes and business above water will always be the city's top priority. As it should be.
