Members warlock Posted January 25, 2009 Members Posted January 25, 2009 I just finished building a 6'6" 2wt rod on a Cabela's PT+ blank. I was wondering what you all would suggest for a 2wt reel to match it? The blank is gloss brown in color, the wraps are roughly the same color brown. It has a down locking reel seat. I know not beautiful(brown on brown) but I am more of a function over looks kind of guy. I just picked up a 3/4 Hobbs Creek reel, but I think I will use it on my 4wt I built last summer. I'm leaning towards the Orvis BBS1 in titanium, but I'm looking for other input before I make up my mind. Thanks Warlock
jjtroutbum Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 My Dad's retirement gift was a 2wt PT same as yours and his has a Okuma Magnitude Fly Reel this is a very light weight reel made out of cast magnesium and has a stainless steel and Teflon corrosion-resistant disc drag system. On a short light rod I would think weight would be the biggest issue since most don't target drag screamers on little rods but luckily this reel has both and for a fair price point. Danoinark Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 The Battenkill bar stock that you picked out is hard to beat. It only weights a little over 3 oz's, and at just over a hundred bucks is inexpensive when it comes to quality reels. Good choice. Members pinecone Posted January 25, 2009 Members Posted January 25, 2009 I've got 2 Orvis Battenkill Barstock reels and for the money i don't think they can be beat! As with anything else, you may be able to spend a little more and get a better reel but I sure couldn't find any.

And, as is getting discussed in another thread, Orvis will stand behind it and fix, repair or replace it if you need. They've been making them for years, and you can buy extra spools, etc. I replaced a spool on one last year that was about 10 years old. John

Weighs the same as the Orvis, but is twice the price as the 150 being offered to you. You can't go wrong with the Hardy in my opinion. I would jump on that deal in a heartbeat.
