txspecks04 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 You guys that bought the sharkskin line, how do you like it now that you have used it for a while? Does it retain its good qualities after the abuse of being on the water for a lot of hours? I have been thinking about getting some, but I have read a lot of mixed reviews on how it holds up... thanks tx
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Great bump on this topic TX... I am eager to hear what they have to say. The sound would drive me nuts... but if it really does float higher and pick up faster... and also wear better than any other line on the market today.. I would give it a try myself. $100 on a flyline... kind of a tough pill though..... Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
txspecks04 Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Yeah, 100 bucks is pretty steep. That is why I wanted to check and see how it held up for some of these guys after repeated use. Until I hear about that, I probably won't be running out the door to pick up a spool.
Micheal Kyle Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I have had very good luck with the ones that I have used. I have had them in the boat all spring and summer with just 100 guide trip under them. I did absoulty nothing to them just to see how long they would last they held up. They float high and are very easy to pick yp off the water. My favorite is the GPX taper. Well worth the money , S/A has come out with all kinds of new lines they have a sharskin in a sinking line plus the new Kelly Galloup streamer lines are going to be the real deal. Hope this helps. Gavin Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I've played around with the shark a few times, but havent bought one yet...IMO, its not $40 better than the SA XXD tapers that I have on most of my 5wt-8wt rods that get used in fresh water. The GPX...not bad, for casts under 50'..but its kinda like a bass bug line.... not great for 60-70' casts....My 2-4wts are currently lined with DT's and Triangle Tapers. FWIW, the best casting line that I have is an old fashioned silk double taper....Works great for 5-6 hours, then you need to dry it and dress it. Cheers.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Gavin - I PM'd you directly. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Members Robert Posted April 3, 2010 Members Posted April 3, 2010 I'm still using Cortland 444 Classic Pink. I like the line a lot. It has been a lot of years. The line has a hard finish, and shoots very well. I'm messing with a Cortland Precision Salmon.Steelhead Tri-Color Spey Short Belly WF 8 Floating line on my switch rod. It is working out very well. My Spey casting leaves a lot to be desired, but this line satisfies me. 16' front taper with a 36'body. Fly lines are like anything else. You will probably get a different answer form everyone you ask.
