I was thinking about planning a vacation in the not so distant future. I would like to do some fly fishing on this trip. I was wondering if anyone has taken any great trips and where they were. Not asking for any secret spots or anything, but I am back into the sport of fly fishing and I would love to plan a trip to take with my Dad while he is still active. No trip to large or small just tell us all about it.

]For the past 2 years, I have been fortunate to spend time on the South Platte River in Colorado. I had several great days at Spinney Mountain and Eleven Mile Canyon. I highly recommend both. Even though they are close in proximity, they are vastly different in scenery and fishing. I don't think you would be disappointed spending time at either place.

Western Alaska has provided some excellent trout fish opportunities for me and a few others on here in the recent past.

I enjoy The Smoky Mountain National Park. Not too bad of a drive. Alot of the streams are road side and hardly ever see people on the same stream. The TN or NC state fishing permit will work for either state as long that you stay in the park. North Carolina is cheaper for out of state residence and both TN & NC can be purchased online. If you stay in Townsend, TN they have a great flyshop called Little River Outfitters. Little River Outfitters also have a website.

It really depends on what you want to do..If you want to take your dad fishing, Alaska should be on top of your list. I think Phill has some nice package deals available for a decent price. If your looking for a vacation that will satisfy a variety of interests other than fishing its hard to beat a trip to Y. Stone mid-July through the end of August. Fly to Bozeman, rent a car, and reserve a couple rooms in the Park and some of the gateway towns. Tour Y. Stone and fish OYO, if you want a guide day or two while the wife and kiddo's do something else, you can book a trip through any of the fly shops in Bozeman, Livinston, Gardiner, West Y. Stone, Cody, or Ennis. Cheers.
