OKFlyFisher44 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Planning on making a day trip up to fish Capps, Crane, and either R.R. or Taney. I'm trying to figure out where to go on Crane. The MDC website gives a map but it pretty much sucks. Can't really tell what roads to take to get to the upper and lower conservation areas outside of town. Is there a place actually IN town that you can park n' fish? Seems like I remember reading about the city park...the creek runs behind the baseball fields maybe? If someone could give me some general directions with highway and road names...that would be fantastic! From what I read...size 10-14 buggers and various bead-head nymphs are the name of the game I'm guessing? Copper Johns, RFSNs, Hare's Ears, etc? Am I correct? Any info would be great guys! Terry Beeson Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Oklahoma? You can't get to Crane from there... Right in the center of the BR section is the bridge in the middle of town. On the north side of the bridge and the west side of the road is the City Park. You can park and fish there... You'll have to go down the street for any "facilities" though... they took out the porta-potties... There are a couple of Conservation areas that can be used to access the river, but hard to explain how to get there. Maybe Tim can enlighten us... Members wildhunter066 Posted January 27, 2009 Members Posted January 27, 2009 You cam go to the MDC website and click on conservation areas. Then you will see view areas by google earth click on it and it wil download all the conservation areas in the state on to google earth. It is an excellent tool for fishing and hunting in the state of missouri. If you dont have google earth it will also give you a link to downlaod google earth. Hope this helps. The maps are 100 times better than the ones on the mdc website.

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 27, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 27, 2009 Posted a map last night- it's pinned on the Crane Creek Forum.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Thanks Lilley...that'll be an easy print-off to take with me. Even better than the maps on MDC. Thank ya sir! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
Members tgard27 Posted January 28, 2009 Members Posted January 28, 2009 Hey, I have a question since we are talking about crane and maps. The MDC has a map that shows the creek as being continously managed by the conservation department from the upper access at wire road to the lower access at grisham ford road. But, when I was at the creek a few weeks ago, there was a sign that said end of public use on the west side of Grisham Ford Road. This has me wondering why the MDC puts out such crummy maps, and makes me wonder where the stream is open for public use and where its privately owned?
