Chief Grey Bear Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Buzz and I met up with Chance from Oklahoma today at Jolly Mill. It was a beautiful day to fish, but the fish didn't seem inclined to that same belief. None the less, it was great meeting with Chance showing him around a little. I just wish that it was as good fishing Capp's this year as it has been in years past. I snapped a couple of photos of Chance and Buzz in action. Having tired of them two not catching anything, I snapped a pic of a female Downy Woodpecker that showed up. Luck was on my side today. I did catch the largest Brown Trout in my trout fishing career. I know it isn't big as the rest of you guy's have but, I have only fished RR, Capp's, Crane and Hickory. I am guessing it was in the 2.5 to 3 lb range. Heck, I 'll call it 3. OKFlyFisher44 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Again...thanks a bunch guys for showing me around. Really appreciate it. Fishing was tough...I had a couple of strikes up by the mill but nothing to hand. Capps really is an awesome creek...lots of holding water for trout, MDC just needs to put some trout in that holding water. Had a dang good time...I'll be back again... On a side note...I didn't make it to Crane guys. I got to Tims and he informed me that there was a "Stream Clean" going on where volunteers walk the creek to pick up trash, tires outta creek, etc. Too much commotion for those Crane trout...so I just stuck it out at R.R. and caught lots of fish on dry flies the rest of the afternoon so I was content : ) Tim and me worked out another time to go to Crane in the coming weekends, so I'll be back to Missouri very soon! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
DD'sMC Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Great Brown Chief! Beautiful specimen. Congrats! We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. The two best times to go fishing? When it is raining and when it is not.
ollie Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I wanted to make it over there this past weekend, but it just didn't work out. Good plans gone bad. It will be hard fishing that stream for the next couple of weeks or so until they stock it again. I don't recognize the section in the picture for sure, but it looks like just down from the bridge. The most I've done is about 1/4 mile down from the old bridge, but I understand others fish below that. John
ollie Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 There is fish up and down that whole creek, just some holes are more productive than others. Although I must admit I have spent many a weekends down there in the last 15 years or so. The most I've done is about 1/4 mile down from the old bridge, but I understand others fish below that. We went downstream and parked at the bridge, then walked back upstream and fished. Lots of good looking water...no doubt about that! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
Chief Grey Bear Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 Hey Chance, you just come on over anytime. It will be a pleasure to fish with you again. Maybe next time we will work our way down to the confluence of Shoal and see what happens. Ollie - Buzz and I both thought you would be there. Sorry, we should have given you a shout. ness - The first and last pic were taken near the mill. The two middle shots were taken just upstream from the lower access bridge. DD'sMC - Thanks. I was pretty dang pumped for a little while. My biggest fear was not getting a pic of him. I actually caught him on my second cast of the day. The way the rest of the day went I doubt Buzz and Chance would have believed me! And I wouldn't have blamed them either!
