Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 2, 2009 Root Admin Posted February 2, 2009 Man, two things bothered me about the game. The officials had too much say in the outcome. And did the Steelers pay off the time keeper!??? One play they really botched. I think with about 5 minutes left, a Steeler player ran out of bounds. They stopped the clock but started it back up after the officials spotted the ball. 15-20 seconds ran off and no one caught it. Then it stopped again at 2 minutes just as the Steelers started the play. Stopped for 2-3 seconds before starting again. The time didn't make any difference. The last play of the first half killed Warner. Great game. Roethlisberger played an incredible game.
drew03cmc Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 The officials gave every possible call to the Steelers and Roethlisberger is nothing without Hines Ward or Holmes. Sorry, Willie Parker is a waste, and they are the dirtiest team in the league. Harrison should have been tossed out. Andy
flyfishmaster Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Well I bet for the Steelers to win, plus they covered my spread of 3 1/2 point. That was to close for my comfort. Besides my bet, I was pulling for Warner. It was a great game to watch, but over all even though the Card defense did make to great stops and a safety they still had 3 Person fouls on one drive, that was a killer. So they ended up being their own worst enemies. Plus I do hope the NFL fines Harrison for that Person Foul he had on that Card punt play. What he did was totally uncalled for. Later, FMM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
flyfishmaster Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I don't think the Steelers are the dirties team out there by any means. Their Defense plays until the whistle blows and they have the best defense coach in the league that teaches them how to hit and hit hard. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Members Trout Predator Posted February 2, 2009 Members Posted February 2, 2009 I'm going to have a hard time watching a game next year. Of all the Super Bowls I've watched I've never seen a game as badly reffed as that one. When the entire season comes down to one play and there's not an Official review, that is crap. I think it was a fumble but you have to review it. I could care less who won but I want it to be certain.
Members BKB Posted February 2, 2009 Members Posted February 2, 2009 I would echo the comments about the refs and have one BIG question... The play at the end of the game was ruled a fumble, but Warner's arm looked like it was going forward......Why no official booth review????
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 2, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted February 2, 2009 I thought it was a fumble. The announcer said they had looked at it. The official in the booth determines whether a play should be reviewed and they didn't think it should be. Warner didn't have control of the ball as his hand went forward BUT it could have gone either way. The facemask call is what got me. It was a hand in the face if anything. 15 yards. Kept the drive going in 4th quarter.
skeeter Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 If it hadn't been for Warner's ill-advised pass into triple coverage at the end of the first half, the Big Red would have won. Then there was the holding on Warner during the following runback that got ignored..... Have to agree about the p-ss poor referees, no calls whatsoever on "roughing-the-passer" almost every time Warner threw. Steelers figured out they could get away with it and just pounded the quarterback. Just ridiculous letting that call go whenever Cards had the ball, and then they call it to protect "Big Ben" when a Card's defender gets anywhere near him. I also thought the call against Cards when Wilson ran over the ball-holder was BS, the replay showed the guy was tripped and couldn't control his direction. Very very sad when this much money and prestige is on the line. The botched fumble call at the game's end just reflected what went on the entire two halves. Only thing I liked, even though I was pulling for the Cards and Warner, was that Bidwell lost again ! Now his players will all want more money ( which he won't pay ) and they will all leave.
brownieman Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I don't watch much sports but my thoughts...Harrison ( steelers #92 I take it ) should be booted out period for that kind of behavior, totally rediculous and uncalled for...pro's?? whatever. Just another fine role model for all the kids watching sports...that kind of behavior SHOULD NOT be tolerated on any level...especially the so called pro's. bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
trout fanatic Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I thought overall, one of the best superbowls I have ever seen. Great excitement. I doubt tho that the idiots who spent all those $ for a 30 second add got their moneys worth and the halftime show was the worst in the history of mankind. Other than that-good stuff.
