Members Wormser Posted March 2, 2009 Members Posted March 2, 2009 I have heard about both these areas, but wasn't sure what they are or why so speacial. Are they just some locations on the river below the springs or are they designated fishing areas? I am heading out to the springs in a few weeknds with my son and was wondering if I can wade down to these areas or if it will be too far? Any input would be highly appreciated. Thanks
brownieman Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Cardiac, suicide, same bluff. It's probably 2 to 3 miles?? below where the park dumps in. There are 3 accesses on that strech...Cardiac which as a Parking Lot at the end of the road right at the bluff. Short distance to the water but one heck of a steep hill to go down and alot steeper coming up, lol. If you lose your footing going down you could hurt yourself...it's pretty darn steep. There is a parking spot on the same road as cardiac a mile and a half or so before you get to cardiac on the right side of the road. Follow the apparant path and the water is about a 15 min.?? walk...brings you out on the river quite aways above cardiac. The lowest access is Scotts Ford...the water is considerably bigger on the lower strech so bank fishing would be difficult. The best method of fishing the trout area on the Meremac is floating it...8,9 miles, a good one day trip. All three places have marked parking areas as far as I know. Hope this helps My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><

patfish Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Like my friend Brownie said, there's not that much distance between the two. Caridiac is a "hill" and a very long hill after wading the river all day. The trip down is pretty much cake. Suicide is more like rock climbing with waders on while carrying a fly rod. Also, if the water is up at all getting across the river at the bottom of Suicide can be a bit hairy. Pack light and smart. I suggest a Camelback and a small snack (bag of jerky or whatever) at either access. You don't want to have to go back to your ride for anything until you are done fishing. Here's some Suicide pics.... (photos courtesy of Sherwood Flycaster, featuring yours truly)
brownieman Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Good pics pat...it's really hard to desribe how steep cardiac is if you've never been there. A picture is worth a thousand words...so true, thanks for posting them. Getting up that sob ate a pair of my waders one time. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><

From what I read, I should drive there instead of wading down from the springs? I ask because we will be camping at the springs campground.
Gavin Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 How many cars will you have? If you have two, I'd drive down to Suicide, fish up to the park then go get the other one with the second car back at camp. If you only have one, I'd drive to Suicide, wade up to the cabin hole and then wade back ,or head up the trail at Cardiac to your car (trail comes in about 1/2 mile below the cabin). You can always fish from the Park to Dry fork after the park buzzer sounds...Dont leave anything of value in your car down at Suicide. Its always easier to wade downstream, so save the upstream part for when your legs are fresh. Cheers.
Bman Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 IMO, I would drive there. I have waded that far, but it is a long way, and you might have trouble getting past Dry Fork Creek. The only good line is a tight line
Members BKB Posted March 3, 2009 Members Posted March 3, 2009 If you are camping at the springs, I would fish from there down to the Cardiac access... you will fish the same water and save yourself the drive and tough hike.
Members CKennedy Posted March 3, 2009 Members Posted March 3, 2009 Pat, I like the last picture. Is this where you were trying not to pass out? You defintely need a cold drink after making the walk back!
