i have a question to everyone. i am looking to get a new sonar and possibly gps also for the front deck of my triton. does anyone have any suggestions? i have a SI unit mounted by the dash though the unit upfront doesnt have to be a humminbird. i want to really learn this year how to use my electronics better and also on table rock like how to drop shot and understand what your bait and fish are on the screen. any suggestions would help thanks.

Your best bet up wront would be a lowrance. Ive tried humminbird, got one on the dash with gps, still won't show drop shotting... From my knowledge which not worth a lot lol U can't beat the LOWRANCE up front.. GOOD LUCK.

I have a Humminbird 535c and it works great for drop shotting, as well as for showing structure, trees, and brush. Capt. Don gave me setup instructions on here that really worked well for setting it up for drop shotting.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either Lowrance or Humminbird, in my opinion.

Just my .02.

If you still have those instructions I would be most interested.

I know there are alot of Hummingbird folks on this board but I really like my two Lowrances. I've got the 522ci up front and the 480-LMX at the console. I will say that I do like the full color option on the 522ci. vs. the gray scale with the 480. With the right settings (sensitivity) and transducer placement you can really hone in on those fish and your lure. There are alot of option's I like with my Lowrances but I'm sure it's because I'm comfortable with them and not so much with the hummingbirds b/c of lack of experience using them. I would doubt you could make a bad choice with eithier brand, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and take the class, read the manuals, and have someone who knows what there doing walk you through your new units features.
