Trout Stalker Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Some of it has to do with the overseas 'conflicts' as well. Anybody tried to by any .223 rem in quantity lately? I just bought a brick of .223 Rem on Sunday at Cabelas and 2 boxes of 9mm. The 9mm was gone in 30 minutes when I went by the shelf.
Trout Stalker Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 IMO, I think we are safe with our gun rights, but I am concerned.

Members ladykiller Posted March 6, 2009 Members Posted March 6, 2009 Good to know! I can usually find a box here or there, but not by the case. Plus I've found a friend with waaaaay too much time on his hands, so he's pressin' out quite a few reloads.
bigredbirdfan Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 You are right on target (get it...... ) hoglaw. If these people who are buying more guns and extra ammo just because the think Obama is going to take their guns would actually educate themselves on the issues, they would understand that he is not going to take their guns away. It is crazy to think otherwise. Also, there is a group of whackos out there that are buying more guns and ammo in response to idiotic "Revolution" talk and the recommendation to "take things into your own hands" by the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. These acts are irresponsible and wreckless at best. Also... talk of "having to defend ourselves" because there will be little or no law enforcement left to protect us is absurd as well. It is amazing what people will believe. Pathetic really. I don't think it is the gun control fueling the ammo demand. Maybe fear of Ammo control. Just a guess.
DoveTail Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I don't think it is the gun control fueling the ammo demand. Maybe fear of Ammo control. Just a guess. Obama said he wouldn't take your guns away - BUT he NEVER said anything about passing legislation with huge fees and prison time if you don't comply with the new gun laws. He also did not promise anything on restricting ammunition. His home state of Illinois, a person just can't buy ammunition as you do in most states. You need ID issued by the state.

I personally, as a law abiding citizen, don't have problem with that. That would seem to make it a little harder for gang members and felons to buy ammo. It has been years since I bought gas without showing ID, or if you will, proof that I could pay for it before I pumped it. I don't hear anyone crying about that! jdmidwest Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 OK, time to rant. There are those out there that attack our rights to own firearms, hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. They go under names like Brady, Peta, Humane Society, and the US Congress. Biden helped to write the Assault Rifle bill under the Clinton Admin. Most of the current administration were the same bunch that caused problems under Clinton. Therefore, there is an anticipation that there will be something coming down the pipes for some sort of gun control in the next 4 years. Bills have already been introduced last year to regulate ammo, the new Atty General wants to ban Assault Rifle sales to curb druglords in Mexico, etc. I am not attacking any political party, just the culprits. Glen Beck is a whacko, there is no need for revolution yet, although our forefathers revolted against the British for less taxation than what we suffer from today. Rush is leading the Conservative movement and trying to pull the Republican parties head out of its butt, he is not calling for revolution. He has good points. As far as the Police not being able to protect us, they are essentially a traffic control and crime investigation unit. They do not protect us from the everyday assault, rapes, murder, car jacking, and other violent crimes. The do investigate and bring culprits to justice, but are rarely on the scene of a violent crime when it happens and you can not depend on them for protection. Most crime is one on one, you and the criminal. You are responsible for your own defense of life, property, and family. Lucky for us, we have a means of protecting ourselves now with the CCW laws that were enacted during the Blunt Admin. Now for the reason of the mass gun sales and ammo sales, people are concerned and are buying now before that right is taken away again. It is not a panic, I have not seen any beating down the doors of the gunshop or fighting over the last Glock. It is systemized and organized purchasing of legal firearms and ammunition. Some of it is hoarding but alot of it is the introduction of alot of new shooters to the handgun sport. More people are taking CCW courses, and they are purchasing handguns and ammo to carry and practice with. Most have seen what has happened in the past and are buying guns for their collection a little sooner anticipating that they may not have the right to buy them in the future. Illinois has a system for tracking everything except what the State Politicians are doing!! It took the FBI to track them. The FOID card is a joke. I was in Carbondale at Dicks Sporting Goods and picked up a few boxes of 50 cal round lead balls for the muzzleloader just in case I have to resort to black powder after my ammo runs out. They asked for my FOID card, I informed the cashier that I was from the Free State of MO, she laughed and took my money. They only use it to track the residents of the state of IL. What part of the country do you live in that is so bad that you have to produce ID to buy gas? Have they started huffing gas fumes in your location? jdmidwest Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Oops, forgot one, the NRA does not sell guns, it is a watchdog organization for gun owners and their rights. Firearms dealers registered with the ATF sell guns. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Chief Grey Bear Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Where would one start? Most of the current administration were the same bunch that caused problems under Clinton? This was YOUR team. Glen Beck is a whacko. I am not sure, but this may be the first thing we agree on. Your bit about Rush is, well in my opinion, way off track. Much like he is. What a ding dong! As far as the Police not being able to protect us, they are essentially a traffic control and crime investigation unit. They do not protect us from the everyday assault, rapes, murder, car jacking, and other violent crimes. Are we supposed to have our own personal police man assigned to us? If we could police ourselves, we wouldn't need them. I am not knocking you on this one so much as I am society. Lucky for us, we have a means of protecting ourselves now with the CCW laws that were enacted during the Blunt Admin. We have plenty of other laws that keep up safe too. You know I can still carry a rifle or shotgun, loaded, in a gun rack, in the back window of my pickup. I can keep a pistol, on the seat of my truck, ready to go if need be. I may be wrong but, as long as I have the gun in the open, I am legal. I don't really need the CCW. Now if I feel the need to carry the gun under my coat into Wal-Mart, that may be different. Uh, well, I am not sure you can do that either. I am not as up to date with the CCW law as you are, where all can you carry a loaded weapon? It is not a panic. This is exactly what is in my opinion, Chicken Little is crying and some are buying. Now for the reason of the mass gun sales and ammo sales, people are concerned and are buying now before that right is taken away again. Again? When did we loose the right and when did we get it back? What part of the country do you live in that is so bad that you have to produce ID to buy gas? Uh well, I know of few, very few stations you don't either swipe you card at the pump or you don't pre pay. Ya know I didn't even bring up the purchase of alcohol or tobacco. Don't hear any crying about that either. Maybe I will now though.
