Members Brennan Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 Just curious what hooks you guys like to put on your wiggle warts. I like gamakatsu but they either seem a little too big or a little too small. What brand/size do you recommend? Thanks, Brennan
brownieman Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I change out the hooks that come on rapalas...generally use mustads (hooks you are using are good hooks). I fine tune the way my plug does it's thing in the water with hook weight also. Heavy hook on the nose and a big 75 lb. rated barrel swivel will keep it down better...especially when you work your plug like I do. I think wrench thought I was nuts...for a bit, lol. I always use a hook comparable to what's on there, most the time as large as I can go without them hanging on each other. Some plugs I take hooks off and leave em off for certain applications...we all have our little 'tricks to the trade. My pennies worth My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
snakem Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I usually put Gamakatsu trebles on them. Can anyone post a pic of what color wiggle wart they use on the rock, any help much thanks.Snakem
motoman Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Several previous posts a while back, (that I kept notes from) seemed to have a common thread of the colors V37, v38 and v59. (But, I imagine any of the craw patterns would be a good bet?) - I don't have pix, but here's a link with a reference to the colors and pix. - http://landbigfish.com/tacklestore/showcase.cfm?PID=4318

Last week, I personally caught 35-40 total bass on the V63 at Table Rock and Bulls Shoals. My .02.

edyer Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks Motoman ,Snakem Out Does anyone throw the Magnum sized Warts here? Kevin Van Dam and his brother Randy have thrown them up here in Michigan for at least 20 years. We catch both Largemouths and big smallmouths on them. Last summer a guy I know that does well on a couple of the Michigan open bass tournaments asked me if I could lend him some of the Magnum warts because he knew I have used them for years. I was able to give him a choice of 25 different colors. I have bought most of them from D&R Sports in Kalamazoo, but I always have my eye open for them anywhere. The store Kevin's brother owns. In Michigan, the best colors for smallmouths are the bone, crayfish, fire tiger, perch, rainbow trout, and brown trout colors. It's amzing to see a big smallie, choke on one of those big warts. I've caught big spots on Table Rock on the fire tiger color throwing it on some windy points/banks. Other than the pre-mentioned colors most guys use here at Table Rock, in Michigan we do very well on a gold plated one they don't make any more. We have had Dale Sellers custom paint some in the bluegill pattern for us to use in Michigan and one of our guys was catching smallmouths on it down here last year.

I typically don't throw them much however, I have seen them work. A couple years back my dad was chucking one down by long creek and caught a 6.75 LM on the Mag.
