Pour Dennis Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Had a club tournament out of the Shell Knob bridge. I went up the King's River and caught my first keeper on a pointer that just touched. Ten minutes later I lost one at the boat because I tried to swing it in the boat. I decided I would lip or net the rest of my fish from then on. I was fishing by myself as my partner had a funeral to go to. Around 12:00 I decided to run to Big Creek where the wind was blowing pretty good. I could only manage one short one on a crank bait. I threw a spinner bait but had no takers. Water temp at Big Creek was right at 50 degrees. I then ran back up the King's to the bank where I caught my only keeper and decided to change to a PB&J 1/2 oz jig, because I had just manage to catch short fish up until then, and caught a nice four pound largemouth and then a keeper. About 5 minutes before I ran back to the ramp. I felt a tick on the line, I set the hook but it felt like I set on a tree. I kept pressure on the line as I maneuvered to get the jig loose. I then noticed the line was pulling back. I knew then That I had a nice fish on. The nice fish was a 5 pound 12 oz largemouth that was big bass for the tourney. I ended up winning with 4 that weighed 12 pounds 10 oz. By the way the temps I found up the kings were in the low to mid 50's.
smallmouthjoe Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Nice fish man, that one on your right looks bigger than 5-12. If I caught it would say it was at least 6 or 7. But I am prone to exaggerating.
Members riverfish86 Posted March 22, 2009 Members Posted March 22, 2009 Nice fish! Me and a few buddies will be in Shell Knob from Wed. through Friday or Saturday. We are staying at Pla-Port resort. Looks like the bite is picking up and in 4 more days it will be even better.
Bill Babler Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 PD, Great Goin!!! This is really some heads up stick-to-it-stuff, going back and refishing a locations that is holding fish is the way you catch them right now. Creating a Milk-Run is late Winter Bassin at its best. Great day and Congrats to you and yours. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Whack'emGood Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Nice fish Dennis. Congrats on the win. "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
