ozark trout fisher Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 That had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes! Oh yeah, one more thing. Does anyone have any good pictures of dead horses laying around?
rangerman Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I have fished table rock for 20+ years (have a house there), I have kept countless limts of kentuckies over that time frame. Released LM and SM caught. It is the tax payers and permit buyers that support the lake and if you are in the confines of the game and fish regulations do what you want. If the catch and release bass fisherman don't like the fact you are keeping fish, who cares what they think. I don't. Just remember you will be eating fresh fish that night and they will be going to Mc Donalds for their Filet of Fish. If someone doesn't like the fact that you have a limit of kentuckies in the livewell, just smile. Kentuckies are good baked, broiled and fried. I love pulling into a gas dock with a limit of fish. I learned over the years, it doesn't matter what they think. I fish kentuckies on the beds with large shiners, its fun, and I will continue doing it. I have caught bass in manners down there that no other bass fisherman has, and I will continue doing so. I will also continue keeping them. If you catch a bass down there and are serious about getting it mounted go for it. You earned it and again its your right. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. If you fish with a guide that refuses you the right to keep some fish to eat don't fish them again. Just smile when they show up at a spot they showed you previously while you are putting a fish in the livewell.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 18, 2009 Root Admin Posted April 18, 2009 No dead horses yet... it's just now getting good.
rangerman Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Another thing, PETA is against us all. We need to stand together whether you like to keep and eat fish or you want to release them. Shouldn't be arguing about it. I know because I have seen it, catch and releasers despise catch and keepers and visa versa. Nuke this thread and support eachother.
Sam Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Like I said earlier, I target other species and throw bass back. But my ornery side has me wanting to research it and post some "Delicious Smallmouth Bass" recipes right here, right now. Maybe grilled with croutons and lemon sauce, ya think? Sometimes it's fun to stir the pot, but naw - I'll be good. I really agree with the statement above about PETA - we're all on the same side here, or should be. Most of us release bass, but I doubt that those who don't release them impact the population much. How many times a year do they fish, and how many times do they catch a significant number of keeper bass? Conservation must figure the impact of some fishermen keeping legal-size bass isn't hurting the fishery - after all, it's been legal forever and bass fishing is still good. If that wasn't so, they'd get legislation passed to change it.
glennL Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Here's a thought... catch and release all bass, Eat the crappie, white bass and walleye. Glenn
ryan Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Just wanted to address what was said about keeping other fish besides bass. I am not against keeping a few kentuckys every now and again (not often) but it really gets on my nerves when guys will catch a 5-6lb walleye and throw it in the livewell. Everyone just says well they are great to eat so lets eat all that we catch. A 5-6-7 pound walleye is going to be a great fish in another couple of years. Bottom line is that there are trophy fish for every species and I am a firm believer that they should go back into the water. If someone catches a fish of a lifetime then do what you want with it, but those replicas look just as pretty. If you wanna keep some fish then go ahead but please be smart about it, and remember the lake is only as good as the fisherman who help manage it.
Members danny Lawrence Posted April 19, 2009 Members Posted April 19, 2009 I never keep a lm or sm I will keep a k after the spawn. If I want a fish dinner I take my grandsons to catch a mess of bluegills.
J.E. Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Any conservation agent will advise that taking fish is not unreasonable and many times is what's needed to improve the fishery. I do not keep fish as I do not like eating fish, but if I did they would be on my plate once in a while. With that said, stooping to name calling on any forum is childish.
