I sure wish everyone else would start throwing their keeper CRAPPIE back. Man, there's thousands and thousands of those removed from the lake every year. If they'd do that, the crappie would get bigger and I could catch a limit to take home a lot quicker and easier.

I guess that thought's a little different from what we're saying about bass. Well, maybe not so different.

Earlier in Jan when we were catching those slabs at Snapp, we were throwing back 10-11 incher because we were catching 12-14 inchers.

Don't you think the 12-14 inchers are in their last year or do you think they'd live another year?

I'd rather catch and keep 8-10 12-14 inch crappie than 15 10-11 inchers. I would think water conditions during and just after spawn affect numbers more than harvest does. Course you could say the same thing about bass.

Great idea Phil. Maybe that jumbo screen can be segmented into 10 little screens and we can watch 10 anglers at a time. As soon as someone hooks up, the screen would zoom into that angler. Each of the top 10 anglers can have a group cheerleaders to keep the crowd fired up and the crowd noise could be broadcasted to the anglers to keep them pumped up. We can have Vegas cover the event and give us odds on who will catch the next fish, the next smallmouth, utter a profanity, cry, etc. We can have instructors on the indoor tanks demonstrating what the anglers are doing. We can have tackle companies standing by selling the hottest bait catching fish. Whoever catches the least amount of fish would have to ride a Jack butt around the arena (sorry, couldn't resist) WE CAN DO THIS, PHIL.

Genius! You got a real good knack for marketing this event, Cap't Joe, and I think I could sell it to a sponsor.

Good Idea guys, WE CAN DO THIS, PHIL!

Good post in a crazy thread...

Once in a while I get talked into taking someone fishing that doesnt really fish that much . One day last spring a husband of one of my wife's friends was not hooking up. Told him to "cast right in there" and bam he hooked up with a good one that went about 6.5. Got my camera out and he said why ,this ones going on my wall. I tried totalk him into a replica mount, not the same he says. the fish went in the box. I tried to talk him out of keeping that fish for the rest of the day. Needless to say I stopped putting him on the fish and we did not boat another fish for 8-9 more hours. tried again in vain at the launch,no dice. later that year attended a party at his house and I asked him where his fish was. I was told that his wife said not enough in the account to have that "ugly stinky thing on my wall" . I was pissed and sort of heart broken all at the same time. wont ever take that guy again. When I do have a guest on my boat now, I make it abundantly clear that all bass go back in the lake, period. My question to all of you guides is, what do you do when a client insists on keeping fish ? Are they all clear on your posistion before they go out or do you have this same sort of conflict?

I would've told him... "You caught that fish out of my boat... you're releasing it." He would have had to knock me out or drown me in order to have kept it.

How about this, anyone that wants to release them go ahead and do so, I'll be right behind you catching those green backs and putting them in the frying pan, and I'll be smiling at you while I do it.

I wouldn't advise it. You might smile at the wrong guy. I'm not saying me... I'm just saying some guys wouldn't appreciate that too much.

Good luck with that though.

Holding my tongue, wow this is really too hard.

I think you misread it. I didn't say me. I think getting into it with someone about these types of things is not worth it.

I'm pretty much saying what I just stated... it's not advisable to taunt someone and get into a fight about something like this. Not to mention childish.

Being poor.... bringing up a good point.

When we bought the resort, my dad made a statement- if the economy goes totally south, we can always eat fish. I'm sure there are people right now supplementing their meals with fish. Can't fault anyone for that!

This seems like the perfect time to announce an event I have been planning for Table Rock...

<>< <>< THE KEEP AND FRY TROUNEY ><> ><>

Join us during the height of the spawn for the ultimate food and fun! This next weekend, on Table Rock Lake, REAL anglers will have a chance to have their catch... and eat it too!! Introducing the first of many bass tournaments where ALL bass will be kept, and fried up afterwards. There are just a few simple rules...

1) All bass must immediately be impailed on a spike after being caught

2) Large female bass with eggs must be joyfully trodden and stomped upon, while singing "Devil went down to Georgia"

3) All bass must be fried afterwards

4) The phrase "catch and release" SHALL NOT BE UTTERED

5) Non-tasty fish such as crappie and walleye, shall immediatly be released UNHARMED

First Prize........................First choice of largest bass fillet!!

Second-Fifteenth prizes... An "I ATE A BASS ON TABLE ROCK" T-Shirt

In all seriousness, I understand people get passionate about this, but in my "non-guide (and non-moderator ;)), non-good-fisherman, low-down, trashy, fish-eater opinion, keeping a few bass now and again won't cause the world to collapse. I haven't eaten a bass in years, but got nothing against those who do on occation. I'm a little more against it in a small river, but in a large lake like TR, a few bass here and there wont have the detrimental effect that it would on a smaller system. If you don't want people to do it, institute catch-and-release policy during a few weeks in the spring. If you used the same amount of energy petitioning for c&r during the spawn as you do bashing fish-eaters on OzarkAnglers, you might be called less names (bad ones anyway ;))
