taxidermist Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Don't get like the musky people claim to be!!!! Heres a thought, If I was paying a guide and caught a nice fish I wanted to keep and he threw it back, I would probably toss his butt in the drink with the fish. Rangerman has a great point, I know someone who is going around the day after bass toruneyments and picking up the dead fish. He has offered them to the State to prove the fish die, but of course money talks and they dont seem to wnat to hear the truth. There are some great quailty reproduction fish available now days and there are some repros that are junk. Then there is the artist who can paint a good repro. Then there is the person who is hunting for cheap taxidermy work. Cheap and taxidermy work never go hand in hand. Cheap is normally inexperienced!!!!! At any rate anyone have a couple nice 4 to 5 lb kentuckys to spare I need a couple to mold.
Members stock jockey Posted April 20, 2009 Members Posted April 20, 2009 Mr. Babler, It is apperent that we are both very passionate people. However, you have twisted what I wrote. Please go back and re-read the post. I stated that I do not think there is anything wrong in keeping short keepers. These in general are male bass. You have gone off the deep end acting like I am out killing seven pound females with eggs. You are twisting the truth. I also know that I did have a conversation last year while fishing. It was down the white river and we had a conservation agent talk to us from the shore. He asked how things were going and I asked him about eating small fish caught. The group of guys that I was with did not like killing the SM because it takes so long for the to get of decent size. I was just trying to get his opinion. He was the one who told me that there was a LM fish kill, and that the SM eat to many of the LM fry. Again, I was fishing in my boat. It was a casual conversation, I did not put him on the stand and ask for his license number, I did not even ask his name. That does not mean I am a liar. Lastly, I spoke with the lodge owner last night and he stated that his main guide will bring bass to him Many times a month to eat. I stated that there were two guides out of one lodge because we hired a guide last fall and he is a different guide and we went out at the lodge. Maybe he did that out of convience for us. I still say there are alot of people who enjoy a meal or two on the bass, crappie, walleye and catfish in your lake. I happen to be a bass fisherman. I don't kill bass that are larger than 3 pounds and most are much smaller than that. Most are Spots that are just legal males. You have twisted this whole thing to get your agenda furthered. Please re-read my post and apoligize for twisting what was said.
SRV1990 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 WOW... the boys up in St. Louis must be cut from a differnt cloth. That said, anyone who wants to come down is more than welcome as long as they don't kill our spawing bass. Tight lines. Jason Essary Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Wow this has been an interesting topic. I never meant to get into the catch and release side. Just wanted to know what everone thought about catching the spawners and effect of it on the population. Members DoctaJ Posted April 20, 2009 Members Posted April 20, 2009 I think we all need to take a deep breath and step back for a moment. We all come from different walks of life, as Phil's dad said they could always eat fish. My papa was a hard working man. I'm from north eastern Ky and he worked in the coke plants so they can make steel. Anything he bought, it was saved. He hunted and fished and I'm sure it was for partial enjoyment but it was for the table. He had enough in the freezer that would last him all year. He is since gone, and on special occasions my mama will actually get some fish that he caught out of the freezer to cook. (Granted her supply is dwindling) My point is this. We all have different pasts. I had never heard of a catch and release fisherman until I came here to St. Louis. So for some, we need to give a little space, and they might warm up to catch and release so that someone might be able to smile pulling in a hawg. I think this thread is and has been out of control. Fishing is a sport and we need to show each other sportsmanship. I think a lot of fishermen have forgotten what it's all about. PS< I will be on the rock next week for the bass pro buddy bass tournament. Anyone has any pointers let me know. I have never been on the lake. I think us BPS guys from St. Louis are going to get smoked b/c I heard 3 guys that work in springfield guide on the rock. I'll make sure and take pics, if my boss gets tired he will bluegill fish or lay on the back of the boat.....=)....it's pretty funny.
Fly_Guy Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 haha - its gutzy to demand an apology from the moderator of the sub-forum! I can't imagine a sillier thing to get offended about - on either side! Keep some fish if you want to now and again. Try to avoid the big, spawning females. Reckon it's time to grow up - and yes, heres a picture (tho not THE picture, immortalized in previous threads)

ozarkgunner Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 LOL Speaking of keeping bass, in the last 3 weeks I have turned in 2 differnt people to the game wardens for keeping bass. I see all kinds of people keeping black bass below Bagnell, it's clearly a river and clearly closed. I stopped telling people about the closed season because they don't want to listen. I just get the plates now and call them in. The second place is a lake north of Columbia, where there is a 12"-15" slot. I have been slaying the crappie on minnows and I just happen to have a jackass stand next to me and throw a fit everytime I let my bass go rather than giving them to him. First, I didn't want to kill the spawing bass that were all right in the slot (good healthly 14" fish), second the guy was an asshole. I told him there was a slot and it just went in one ear and out the other. He left with 7 bass that he caught, all of them were in the slot. To top it all off, he was trying to snag spawning crappie. (Like it's really that hard to catch them) I hope MDC caught him, what a prick. Angler At Law

This guy sounds like he needs a long walk of a short dock! If people are keeping fish illegally, call em in! Sadly, most people probably get off. I know from experience... can't tell you how many fat sub-legal brown trout I've taken out of Taneycomo... - jk of course
ozark trout fisher Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I think you misread it. I didn't say me. I think getting into it with someone about these types of things is not worth it. I'm pretty much saying what I just stated... it's not advisable to taunt someone and get into a fight about something like this. Not to mention childish. Sir, I'm not sure what you're reading, but I wasn't trying to taunt you or anyone else. I was just simply stating that I didn't feel like getting into this argument, but it was hard to keep my mouth shut. In fact, I wasn't even really referring to what you said. I may be incorrect on this, but I think you read me all wrong. Really though, I'm kinda confused how you could have taken this as me taunting you..................................................
