Put in at Gages. Headed up in Brushy. First cast looking for crappie throwing a chart swimming minnow and hooked a 4-5 lb smalley. Man do they fight. I released her before the pic. Pea gravel real close to the bank.

Short story- rest of the afternoon we hit lots of crappie banks and found a crappie here and there- almost all on the bank but only 6 all afternoon. Fantastic weather!!! No wind, light rain and hardly anyone out. Caught a bunch of nice redears and big blue gill too- Rolan throwing a white jig with his fly rod killed them. Made a good mess of fish at the end of the day.

They got to be close...

Thats encouraging. I was in there last Friday and Sat. early, nothing. Think the bite is better in the afternoon?

I have not been to truman this year, but my father and his fishing buddies fished there last thursday thru sunday...very slow bass bite for them, very slow with only a couple keepers, although they were in the 4lb range

Dad said that guys in boats and on shore were slaying the crappie by the bucket full. He was in the Windsor Crossing area.

Thats all the info I have on that..good luck

I am confused too... fished too hard for just 6 and they were scattered. No pattern.

I'm thinking although we're catching big ones, the numbers overall may be down OR they're just not started and will very soon.

It is quiet on the forum as far as crappie. Need more people talking about it.

I fished up the river from Bridgeport for a couple of hours on Saturday and only caught 2 crappie. Caught them both on swimming minnows.

Sorry I am chiming in so late. Been pretty busy. Fished Sunday afternoon into the late evening. Caught 9 keepers, several of which were very large. The fish that were coming off the bank were small males, what keepers we did catch would come off of wood on channel banks or would come out of spawing pockets but half out to the boat. Anything super shallow was small and a non keeper. Wood still played a key role for the most part. This all happened up the Kings. Sorry I haven't reported much, but sold the boat, now only get to go when I can borrow my father in law's. Also, on Sunday, you need to remember that it was very windy and that the wind was blowing out of the south and east. Not a good combination for anything.
