The Water Was Off Last Night

Scheduled generation was predicted to be at zero units at midnight so DD'sMC and I went to bed early and set the alarm for 11:30 p.m. We got to the parking lot at midnight thirty and the water was off but still high. Went to the flats between outlet one and outlet 2 and fished for a couple of hours waiting for the water to drop out. I caught 2 real nice bows on a slumpbuster and another silver bullet. The water still had not dropped out all the way but we decided to head down to the Big Hole and Point. The Point was still under about a foot of water but I did manage to pick up a silver bullet on my first cast down there. Fished for another hour or so and the water was still at 702.8 and only picked up 3 more fish. Went back up the the flats to try and get the skunk off DD'sMC. She spent about 30 minutes up there stripping streamers before finally getting a solid hook up and a fish to hand. Pretty slow fishing considering the water was off, but hey, we were fishing...

With all the water downstream, from weeks of running, it'll take along time for it to drop completely off.

They've not turn it all back on this morning... nice change. Looks like 2 units.

I'll add this also..

I hit the water about 9:30 and the water was already dropping a little bit... 708. when I got there (4 units)

About 10:30 it was really starting to drop out enough to start wading away from the tree line at outlet..

I started with a beaded PMS (olive) and caught a 6 within about 30minutes...

as the water started to lower I started getting some short strikes so I switched to a Tungsten Beaded Hibernator (Olive/purple) pick up a few more.... switched to a black and purple and a couple more....

after about 20 cast or so and no more strikes I switched..

Next was a white Mohawk.... seem to be the fly of the night (opps.. for now)......

Probably did the best on it... picking up about 10 fish...

Once the water shut complete off... It seemed like the fish shut off to...

Silver bullets are small rainbows that have just been stocked by the hatchery

The only thing I do different to them (slumpbusters) is I use a dubbing loop with SLF instead of the flash that Barr uses on the body. I also use 3 wraps of fur for the collar to make sure it seats all the way under the cone when finishing.

Thanks. I'm going to Hargrove's in St. Louis Saturday to pickup supplies. I will definitely be picking up materials for that. It looks like a great fly.

Hey duckydoty and MC I thought that was your truck I seen in the lot. You two didn't waste any time moving downstream after you put in and I did hear one of you catch one right after getting into the water. I was up closer to #1 when you put in. It was painfully slow for me, I threw everything but the empty fly box at them and only had one good hook up. I got in the water at 12:20 and left at 2:30. It was really good to wade again though.
