Members jdixon Posted May 8, 2009 Author Members Posted May 8, 2009 looks like the river is getting pounded with rain today, probably not a good weekend to go down, bummer i was ready. thanks again for advise will have to use another time. i will have to invest in sink tip line.
Nortrad Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Nortrad, we need to fish together sometime. This summer may not present the best opportunity, but if you're interested, send me a pm and I'll see what I can do about weaseling a day off. Gavin, be great to fish with you too. Might be a good time meeting up and just getting silly with streamers... playing around with drifting and burning... if you're interested, pm me. Thanks for the offer. I'm buried in papers, unit plans and grading finals next week. I'm also possibly switching jobs, so that may complicate fishing (ARRGH! Stupid job thing, interfering with the fishing...). I'd like to swap streamer-type stuff. I'm also anxious to try some new 'weapons' I got in the mail this week. I also have to tie. I'll get to you guys. Nortrad
Members jdixon Posted May 11, 2009 Author Members Posted May 11, 2009 well i lied and went down on saturday and got the skunk off my back. i didn't fish much different than last weekend but i did fish a little different water. last time i went fished alot of the flat, slower, shallow water, fished it yesterday and no luck either. okflyfisher, i did go up to rock garden, did good there, above and below it. caught fish on deer hair caddis, stimulater (in fast water), soft hackle and even a beetle. i was wondering how different is the fishing on the river when it is at normal (lower) water levels? are the fish a liitle more spooky, hold in different water? p.s. the place was a wreck, road to baptist and van tan off of yy were impassable with all the downed trees, had to drive around thru the park. water level wasn't bad few trees downed in river though. thanks again.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 okflyfisher, i did go up to rock garden, did good there, above and below it. caught fish on deer hair caddis, stimulater (in fast water), soft hackle and even a beetle. Glad to hear that my advice paid off for you! That is a really nice section of water up there...I could spend probably a whole day up there if I really took my time fishing it! I never made it past the bend in the river right above that really "rocky" section in the river. How did it fish up above, closer to the park? Glad to hear you caught some fish on dries too...always the best way to do it! I can't wait to get back up to the Current. I almost drove up saturday afternoon when I got off work, I had all my gear packed but decided against it with the weather and everything. Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
Members jdixon Posted May 11, 2009 Author Members Posted May 11, 2009 didn,t walk up past it too much just to the next bend but the fish did seem to be pretty aggressive, if you had one rise on your fly and missed him he would come back until we was caught, you might have to change up but he would come back. it would be nice to walk to the park and fish your way back, maybe next time.
