Brian Sloss Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Sorry you had a bad time with the boats. It honestly isn't usually as bad as last weekend. For whatever reason, Whitten was as packed as I have ever seen it and every flat bottom boat from three counties was there. It isn't normally that bad. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
steve l Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 It's gonna take someone getting killed or seriously hurt by one of the drunken idiots before anyone takes notice & decides to take action? How often has someone been hauled off the river in cuffs for DUI? I suspect everyone of us who canoes with any regularity has had this problem. Wonder how many jet boats have been run down by canoers?
Gavin Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Jets can get pretty thick down there on the weekends.I've been out there once or twice when Whitten was packed with boat trailers and it wasnt an experience that I'd like to repeat. A jet boat/canoe incident/swimmer incident is bound to happen, so I take precautions to make sure its not me getting hurt when I hear one coming. Jets are different than prop drive boats. Jets cant turn if they slow down, and they might get stuck in a shallow spot if they come off plane.......So I figure that its best to stay out of the bend, narrow channels, and shallow spots when you hear one coming..I'll pull off on a gravel bar out of the channel, or sit in a in visable spot in the pool well above a bend when I hear one coming. If swimming, or wading fishing I get the heck out of the water. No sense putting yourself in a position to get run over or swamped. Cheers.
ozark trout fisher Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I got a question for you all. Is it illegal to drive a motorized boat while drunk? I think it should be. No different from driving drunk in my mind.
GloryDaze Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 It's called a BWI- Boating While Intoxicated... They can take you to jail if they choose, but the offense will not show up on your driving record (automobile) Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory

I've never heard of it before, and certainly never seen anyone stopped for it. But I'm glad it exists. Not sure if it applies to canoes and kayaks, but if they did, the police could sure have a picnic on the Meramec River every weekend LOL

But lets apply that to the highways. Can you imagine anyone saying geez, we'll let people cruise the roads as fast as they want in any manner they want while slamming beers all day, and when they appear we should pull off the roads until they pass? I really hope what we're not seeing is the migration of the idiots to the 11P as pressure is being put on the other rivers to clean them up.
