Members dbbmo Posted May 14, 2009 Members Posted May 14, 2009 A couple days ago, 5/11/09, my friend and I decided to rent a canoe from the Fellows Marina, but much to our dismay the gate was closed. There was a handwritten sign on the gate that said it was closed due to damage from the storm. What a shame since it was an absolutely beautiful day; no wind, little cloud cover, very gentle breeze, and the temperature was just right. So we decided to park nearby and walk over to check it out. Now, I only had the camera on my phone so the pictures aren't the best but they'll give you an idea. These are the steps that used to lead onto the dock, and this is where the dock is now relative to the steps. If you're not familiar with the Fellows Marina then you should know that it is approximately 100 yards from where it was and is now facing the opposite direction. We ended up going to McDaniels instead. He caught a couple perch and one small crappie, and I didn't catch a thing. A lady showed up next to us fishing with worms and within the first 15 minutes she had three small perch and a nice sized white bass. Better luck next time I guess.
oneshot Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I don't know from Pics but looks like not a real hard fix. Two of my kids live in Fair Grove they had a mess to clean up.No reall damage to either place. oneshot
Members Bill Y. Posted May 15, 2009 Members Posted May 15, 2009 Hi, I used to live in Springfield, now live in St. Louis but still go down there now & then to fish Fellows Lake... My brother and I were planning on going to Fellows Lake this weekend to rent a boat at the marina and fish for bass & muskies, but we had to cancel the trip after hearing the marina was closed due to damage from Fridays storms... Does anyone know if they have started repair work and if they will have the marina up and running by next weekend (May 23-24)??? Also, how is the lake? Is it flooded like last year? How has the fishing been?? Thanks, ~BILL
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I was in Fair Grove when it blew, and the marina probably got off lucky keeping its roof. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Flysmallie Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Well I guess the marina is open now, sort of. It's still sitting right up against the ramp but boats are unloading and the marina lady was out there making sure everyone was official. I get kind of scared everytime she looks my way. I didn't really fish much, stuck on the bank and the wind was blowing about 100 mph. Wanted to head out there and play with a new frog fly on the fly rod but it was so windy I didn't even try. Did catch a couple small largemouth on a carolina rigged worm up closer to the dam. All those bushes in the water look really good right now.
Members Bill Y. Posted May 20, 2009 Members Posted May 20, 2009 The hell with Fellows.... We are going up to Pomme. It's a much better bass and muskie lake anyway, and I'm tired of city utilities taking their sweet time.
