ozarkgunner Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I picked up a St. Croix avid crank bait rod on Friday so naturally I needed to put a reel on it. I went into Bass Pro only to discover my favorite reel the Curado D had been discounted. However, the new model the E is the most amazing reel I have ever held. WOW. The best part is that it actually came down in price! Its sitting on my rod and I am loving life! Angler At Law

I can say hands down it is once of the best reels I have ever used. Angler At Law
rps Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I agree. I love mine. Wish I could replace all the other baitcasters.

I have one of last years models also and it feels like throwing a brick compared to the E model! It's amazing the difference a year makes! I love this reel. I will never buy anything else. rps Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I wanted to bump this back to the top to add to what I wrote in early June. The reel now sounds like a low end Johnny Morris special and when under pressure during the reel (a fish on) it grinds. This is the first Shimano I've ever had that didn't last five or more years. I am headed to BP to see if I can get warranty relief.

If they start in to having problems Id like to know my best route to fixing the situation. rps Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Here is what I found out so far: Curados have a one year warranty. For warranty work or repair, you download a repair form from the Shimano web site, complete it, and send it with the reel to their center in Caifornia. They fix and rerturn. If a repair is not warranty, there is a fixed repair cost - depending on the kind of reel - plus a charge for parts. Looks like it will cost me shipping only. I will report turn around time and other details when I find out.
rps Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Shimano came through. I have received a brand new Curado E and my only cost was the shipping to their warranty repair location. From the time I mailed to the day I received my replacement was 11 or 12 days. In this day and age, that is good customer service.
denjac Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I have all shimono reels, spin and bait , and really not happy with them for what they cost. Seem to be a little rough and dont get me started if you get a spin wet. I do not have the curado though might have to give them a whirl. Using citcas and Chronarch right now. eric1978 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 All I've ever used for baitcasting are Chronarchs and Curados, and honestly I've had more problems with the Chronarchs (very few problems). IMHO they are basically the same reel and suck you in for the extra $80-$100 for the Chronarch just because they're silver and pretty. Never used the new models but just ordered a Curado 200E7 from eBay for $149.00. I'll post the report card after I take it on a stream and drop it in the water and sand. They are fairly complicated and delicate pieces of equipment and I think a certain amount of maintenance should be expected.
