In the big push toward catch and release in recent years a lot of people have gone to getting replicas of their fish made. I have never been a big fan of replicas for a couple of reasons. 1 it really wasn't really the fish that I caught. and 2 the replicas that I have seen never seem to look real. Consequently, because I do practice catch and release I do not have any fish mounted. A few years ago a friend of mine opened a Taxidermy business. I went over to see him last night and he showed me his latest replica. I was so impressed with it I wanted to post a picture here. Just in case any of you feel as I do about replicas. This thing looks like it could swim off.

Good luck and good fishing

I don't know what the difference is but I copied Jbird's pic and posted it and it seems to have worked.

it really is an incredible piece. The picture looks good but the piece in real life looks like it is ready to weigh in. The picture is 1.3meg so it should be small enough, and it says it is uploading but It just doesnt show up. any ideas?

RRV,

Do you have a shutterfly/snapfish or any other image hositing account you can send it too?

-

If not, you can e-mail it to me, and I'll put it on my account, then just post it in this thread for yah. :)

-

It's no big deal at all for me, and I'm itchin' to see it too.

And in response to your earlier question. The replicas I've seen lately seem to be MUCH better than the ones I've seen in the past. (maybe just coincidense?) And although it's not THE actual fish, I like the idea of a replica better, that way the actual fish is still out there for someone else too enjoy. :D

I have a question for anyone that would know. I am fixing to go back to canada for a week. Have been wondering about getting anouther fish mounted and was wondering about replicas. I have caught 4 northern pike in the 20 lb range, wonder how much one would cost to have it done???

Seems odd it wouldn't let you upload a small pic like that. I am sure motoman will take care of you, but if that doesn't work....I can try to get it to post as well.

RRV,

I got your message, but I couldn't reply to it? I kept getting a Mail system Error, undeliverable (or something like that?)

Check your PM's, I forwarded my e-mail address over. ;)

I believe that my friend told me that he gets $15 per inch. That is the cost of the form, prep, paint, out the door. I'm not sure if that is cheap or expensive but I pretty sure that is what he said. He said he needs an overall length measurement, a girth measurement pictures of the fish so that he can match the look of the fish and a weight is always nice but not necessary.

RRV. Is $15 an inch for bass or for all species? I know that Northerns are quite different so i was just wondering. Im taking my son again, and if him or I get a trophy this trip, I am going to be looking for one to be made. Possibility of a walleye too. My biggest Northern to date was 43 1/2" and 26lbs. But i have caught 4 over the 40" mark.
