denjac Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Had a topwater bite early, 5:30 until about 8:00. All dinks. Missed a bunch, they would hit it 2, 3, 4 times and not get hooked. didnt mater if it was the spook, sammy or redfin. Theywould just knockit out of the water. one fish hit me a solid kathump and I knew right away I was no bass. Didnt figure out what it was until I swung it into the boat. Buzz Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Nice fish. I bet you were suprised to see that one. Did you catch any Kentuckies on top? I've had them smack topwater baits several times before hooking them. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
denjac Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 Water temp was 70. Buzz, had a mixed bag ky, sm and blacks. they were just acting goofy, trying to kill the bait but wouldnt hook up. techo Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 The wife and I went out this morning too We didn't get on the lake until 7 though. Same story...some shorts on the red fin, caught one short on a white grub tail and we caught a couple on the Eakns jig. There was no wind early. About noon a bunch of huge boats came out on the lake and tried to kill us so we left the lake around 1. Tim Carpenter
Tom Spence Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 My son and I fished the KAST kids tourney out of Ahoys. Took off at 630 and worked points with a spook down lake toward the dam. Had two keepers in the boat by 715 then it slacked off. For you white bass types...saw several schools of whites just inside pockets off points tearing up schools of shad. Threw the spook to them and had no trouble catching several very nice ones. Caught several more shorts on the spook then started working out on the points as the sun got higher. Caught several fish the rest of the day dragging a split shot and throwing a grub but no more keepers. Tried drop shotting with no luck. Found several fish but they ddin't care for my offerings. Gonna take my little girl out tomorrow morning. Think I'll put a night crawler on a drop shot for her and see what happens.
