Looking for some recommendations on what section of the river to float to get into some good smallmouth fishing on a two day float. We have floated from Round Spring to Two Rivers several years back and had some of the best smallmouth fishing that we have experienced in all of our floats. The only negative was the boats running up and down the river but we know what we are getting into by going back so we are prepared to live with that. And really it's getting just as bad on a lot of other rivers.

We have our own canoes and will be shuttling ourselves so we are not restricted by any of that. This will be our 8th year of floating together and I'm not sure why we chose the Current again but we did. Actually we had looked at doing the Jacks Fork but since other obligations have pushed this trip into middle July we are not sure that this would be the best bet for us. We are not sure about the float from Alley down to Two Rivers and if there would be a secluded garvel bar to camp on at night. We were also worried about going above Alley this late in the year. I absolutely love the idea of fishing up there, I just don't want to spend all my time dragging my canoe through low water.

We would also consider another river if anyone has any ideas. We typically don't do anything over 16 to 18 miles for the two days. We stop way to much to fish for it to be any longer of a float.

Thanks for any input.

I have always had my best luck with Smallies from Round Spring to Two rivers. From Aker's to Round it seems like I have only caught trout and never a smallie.

I remember the boats hauling a%$ up and down the river on that section as well- As for camping, there is a spot that is just beautiful if there is enough wood. Here is the link: The pics of the campsite are labeled Current #5-#9 http://www.flickr.com/photos/glorydaze/page8/

This camp was about 13 miles downstream from Round Spring or 4 miles above Two Rivers.

Flysmallie... I float the Jacks Fork from Eminence to Two Rivers 3 or 4 times a year. It's an 8 mile trip. Averaging 4 miles a day allows me to fish hard and not miss any good holes. There's a bunch of great gravel bars to camp on too (perfect one on river left just past where Little Shawnee creek comes in on the right, there's a sign). I haven't been on the Current for a while cause I don't like the boats either. Watch for the wild horses along the river. I usually go mid-week and have virtually had the place to myself. Going down again sometime this month. Here's a few pics of my last trip down (last August). Call Anita down at Two Rivers if you need a river level report but from Alley down it's a great float year round. By the way... Alley down to Eminence is a beautiful trip too but I've always caught better fish from Eminence down (especially from Shawnee Creek down to Two Rivers, the last 3 miles. Good luck! :D

17 and a half incher just above Two Rivers

Wild horses

Rocky Creek southeast of Eminence. Neat place

Yeah I really hate all the boats. It would be fine if they were fisherman just running up or down river to do some fishing but most on the Current just seem like they are out joyriding. Some of them have some nice "hood ornaments" laying in the front of them though. ;)

Thanks for the info on the Jacks KC. We have considered doing the Alley to Two Rivers but were unsure if that area would be even more populated than the rest since it goes right through Eminence. Plus we figured the halfway point (or a little farther) would put us right in the middle of everyone when we camped Saturday night.

I really wish we could float during the week but our schedules just won't allow it this year.

Might try the Big Piney...not many jets on it and it's fairly scenic between Slabtown and Ross..Not usually many folks on the first ten miles of the float, but the outfitters dump a bunch in for the five mile float from 6x down to Ross. Cheers.

Flysmallie... you're welcome and believe me if you get the chance to take some days off to hit it down there mid-week... do it!
