Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 30, 2009 Root Admin Posted July 30, 2009 Maybe a good way to test it would be to put a coffee bean on a hook and fish it on the bottom like you would powerbait. I would think then you could say that if it gets a bite it wouldn't be because of the way it was presented or looked since there probably aren't too many beatles swimming around on the bottom of Taney. Or maybe somebody could make some type of unsented dough bait and grind up coffee to mix in it. That way if you get a bite it would be most likely based on the scent. Maybe that wouldn't actually prove anything, but just some ideas Careful... you can catch trout on a yarn egg fly, no scent, on the bottom, still, and catch fish just like, but not as affective as, power bait. Yarn is legal... presently.
Micheal Kyle Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The best beetle that I've ever fished with.. http://ozarkflyfishers.org/fly/beetle.html still have around a dozen tied by Jerry when he tied for Hargrove's, I only break them out for quality fish that have refused other offerings. Cheers. That is a great looking fly To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Greg Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I've been vacationing in CO and missed out. What a funny and entertaining thread. I just caught a lot of trout on a beetle pattern in CO this past week - I really like the pattern Gavin posted.
