Members Doop Posted July 11, 2009 Members Posted July 11, 2009 Okay...after my humbling first trip to Pomme De Terre...and I do mean humbling....I would like to go again but next time fish at a little more desirable time......when the water is not 90 degrees. If I had to guess.....it would be when the water reaches 70 degrees (spawn) right? I was really surprised we weren't able to find a bass over 10 inches. Just looking to get my brother over there so he can catch some fish. Any thoughts?
Flysmallie Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 of course the spawning period in the spring is always good. But I would rather fish it in the fall. It's a very good fall lake fishing spinnerbaits. When the water starts dropping into the low 70's the spinnerbait action will really pick up. My two favorite areas are the area right around the Wheatland ramp and the area between 83 Marina and Bolivar landing. Fish the channel swings and the big chunky rock banks with spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Once you get a good pattern going you will be able to catch them all over the lake fishing the same type spots.
Dutch Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Pom is a fishy pond for sure. You prolly just hit it at a bad time.
shockley32 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Pomme is a great lake. There's no need to wait for the water temps to come back down you can catch several right now. For bass hit some main lake points, especially ones that are long and tapering. If you throw a crankbait and then follow with a jig, worm, tube, etc... you should catch several fish. Also find the green conservation signs and throw a jig and plastic worm right into the brush. For crappie hit standing timber and brush piles with a jig. Good luck and great fishin'. Brad Have your visited Limitville lately?
Members Doop Posted July 14, 2009 Author Members Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks for the help guys. We worked very hard last Wednesday and the only bass we could find were off the pilings of the bridge. I'm back in Texas now and it's 107 degrees. I'll definitely be coming back to fish Pomme again with my bro-in-law....probably in the fall sometime. Any suggestions on fall fishing? (one month generally better than another)
Dutch Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Fall to me is Oct 15 to Dec 15 any time in there would be a good thing.
