My wife and I are headed up to Harrison this weekend for our nephews' baseball tournament. I'm hoping to sneak over to Crooked Creek a time or two and swing the flyrod at some smallies between games. Any tips on access points with good fishing nearby (I'm not afraid to do some hard bushwacking)?. Would I be smarter to take the canoe and float/drag a ways up or down the creek an then make my way back to the put-in, or maybe just hit something on the Buffalo. Any help would be mucho appreciated. Feel free to PM me. Thanks. B) Dan-o

Creek fishing in town is not good at all. If you have time take 62/412 East to Pyatt. There is an AGFC access there with parking, canoe launch ramp etc. That might be your best bet.

Thanks Dano. I was planning on getting away from town to fish the creek. Just wondering if some places are better than others and if I could make it very far before getting cut off by deep water or bluffs, etc. I know how tight-lipped folks can be about their favorite smallie holes (myself included), but I hope to read some more comments. Thanks again. B) Dan-o

You might look at this thread from the other day about some access.

Another quick trip would be down Highway 7 to Pruitt on the Buffalo. You could walk down river from the accesses and might find some seclusion. Fishing at the Hasty low water bridge area is also a possibility.

Danoinark... heard Gordon Motel in Jasper is still putting in at Pruitt. There to Hasty OK right now? Only floated the Buffalo from Gilbert down to Rush years past. Staying in Ponca with BOC. Don't wanna travel to far if I have to.

One question... is it an easy wade from Steele Creek to Big Bluff for pics? From what I've seen you can't float it now.

Thanks for any info!

KC, Mike Mills at BOC is a great host. He sure will treat you nice. I haven't been to the river in a couple of weeks and it was floatable then, but not sure this week. We have had some rain but probably not enough. I would opt for below Hasty if you can. I would say Gordon's would accommodate and maybe even BOC. Friend Bobber would be able to tell us more about a decent float. You should be able to wade to take pics at Big Bluff, I don't think that would be a problem.

for info the "low water bridge" at Hastey is no longer a low water bridge, I thought I was on the Missisippi..... man what a bridge....

Harrison got a bunch of rain and Crooked is very high right now, 16ft maybe.

Buffalo might be better

With the rise in water levels, I'm gonna take the canoe just to be safe. Any outfitters in the Yellville area who might help us with a shuttle? B) Dan-o
