Members Bad cast
Im heading down to Montauk for the first time Wed. and pulling the camper. I dont have any reservations so first come is my only option. I know the parks always full on the weekends. Am I wasting my time trying to get a site during the week. My wife likes to watch me fish and do a little reading, is there clear places on the bank for a chair to sit and watch. Any help would be great. Thanks Randy
Greg
During the week there are usually a few sites available - from the sites that are designated that way (first come first serve). Even during the busy season. I think most of those sites are non electric though? But not 100% sure of that. I think those non reservable sites are more available early in the week and tend to fill up by Fri. Another option is that there are a couple of other campgrounds in the area. http://www.angelfire.com/wi3/tradewinds/tradewinds.html http://www.pinecrestcampground.net/ There are places where your wife can set up a chair and watch you. It just depends on where you are fishing. Hope you have a great time. My family and I love Montauk. Gavin
If you cant find a site in the park...Eagles Park has some RV sites available....head out the downstream end of the park for a half mile or so and it will be on your left...Ozark Mountain Ranch is a bit further...Pine Crest is up the hill and back toward Salem aways. Cheers.
3wt
Check: http://www.icampmo.com/SearchPark.aspx Select Montauk; choose loop/options. See what's available. one available on loop 2, two on 3, nine on loop 4. You're good - I personally like loop 4. Very quiet at night. You could even make a reservation still if you could choose a site you like - map and pictures + descriptions available.
3wt
By the way, you can take "reservable" sites if they are not reserved on the day-of. They put "available for X nights" signs on unreserved sites. Not that it matters, everything is now reservable at montauk.
Greg
Not that it matters, everything is now reservable at montauk. Unless it has just recently changed the website says there are still quite a # of basic sites that are non reservable. And that was the case in June of 2008 when I was there. Thanks Randy I wouldn't worry about it too much especially this late in the year, all the kiddo's are heading back to school and in my past experience the weekdays are a great time to be there. Competition for camp spots is low and the fishing is great at this time of the year. Good luck on your trip and report back so we can all be jelouse of all the fish we didn't get to catch!
