It runs through the National Forest so no land owners are going to gripe. Trout fishing is unreal on it, but theres a chance to catch trophy sized smallies as well.

Flysmallie Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I have fly fished both for smallmouth. I fish the James the most, since it's only a short drive away, so that's where I've had the best luck. But if I were doing a overnight float it would be on the Eleven Point. Such a beautiful place. The best section for smallmouth is from the Hwy 160 bridge on down. Â Â

I have always floated from greer to riverton. Its awesome trout water and i think is about 18 miles. If you want a guide look up brian sloss on the eleven point forum. He will know of someone if he doesn't guide himself. I always threw jerkbaits this time of year for the trout and did good. But I dont fly fish.

Kyle Kosovich Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 If your looking for a guide on overnighters check out my site. Its my specialty... I would definitely vote for the eleven point in October over the James. I float it myself with family every October because it is so beautiful. There are trophy smallmouth and rainbow trout in the entire river so anything is possible. early October is going to be beter for smallmouth though and the rainbows happen anytime. Good luck and I'll have a report on the Eleven point after this weekend. A few photos from the Eleven Point last year. Kyle Kosovich Boat Builder/Guide http://www.LongboatOutfitters.com
Gavin Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Fly fishing for smallmouth is good right now, but it will get a lot tougher in October. Float the James now if you can...then float the Eleven Pt. in October. Cheers.
Brian Sloss Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I do guided fly fishing in a drift boat on the Eleven Point if you are interested. Oct is a great time to be on the river here. Cane Bluff to Greer is great smallie water, though the water may be lower than you would want in Oct. Greer to Riverton has about 20 miles of trout water after that.
