I know that many people have their secret ponds, and im not expecting anyone to disclose any information regarding their honey hole, or favorite spots when it comes to pond fishing.

But im looking for a decent pond to do some bass fishing at. Public access.

I've heard good things about the horton smith golf course pond....

I know of a good one up by fair grove but i don't want to drive that far this afternoon.

anyone have any general suggestions on locations.

Thanks!

That's a tall order. I've spent many an hour on google earth finding "possible fishing holes" and when I get there most of them are on private property. I finally got to know a landowner with a nice pond so I've been sticking to that, but I might check out the Horton Smith pond. Do you know if the course actually allows fishing? Anyway, right now it's closed for fishing, but within a year or two Valley Water Mill Lake will be open (it's about the size of a big pond). It's on Valley Water Mill Rd. (imagine that!) right by Fellows, and looks pretty nice. You can read about it on the Missouri Watershed Committee's web page, I put a link at the bottom of my post. Can't wait to try it out!

wow, that sounds awesome. Although I doubt that there are any MONSTERS in there yet. Usually a bass won't reach trophy size until 4 or 5 years old, am i right?

Also, the Horton Smith pond was a flop. During the early to late spring, would have been prime time to be down there fishing. As of now, the vegetation in the water is far too overgrown to work any type of lure, including topwater. Although, I have heard stories of some enormous bass being pulled out of there, i am assuming those were caught when the pond is actually fish-able. I tried topwater for a while and saw some massive water movements but had no hits. Probably could have hooked a couple with a spinner or plastic worm, had the vegetation not been so overgrown. I plan on going back in the spring time.

Horny Toad ! ???

A really good trick for ponds like that is to put on some hip boots, take a garden rake or a hoe, and clear out some "lanes". Then come back and fish them in a few days.

I have seen a stretch of water on Lake Taneycomo that you cannot access by boat in any way. There were more carp / bass ? trout ?? in there then I have ever seen in one spot anywhere. It is like flooded land... and yeah, its totally private.

All I caught were carp. Then never went back. Probably all just spawners sows anyways on the fly.

Chalk it up to just being in the right place at the time I guess. Brian

Just once I wish a trout would wink at me!
