crappiefisherman Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Went to K Dock area today and caught fish....Actually my fist cast with my new fireline was a looped up mess and when I realed it back in there was a 15 inch crappie on my pole.First cast mind you, which usually is the kiss of death for luck. But my luck continued. It was a 6 hour struggle but I limited out on very nice sized crappie. The whites where surfacing but I actually stayed on my crappie task at hand. The fish are on the bottom, on top of brush piles and stomachs are full of shad.It was a blast.Have a blessed day. [ [
stone9-7=2 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Nice report. Been kissed with the first cast/catch of death a few times myself..
Members Crappie Fisherman Posted August 24, 2009 Members Posted August 24, 2009 How deep were you fishing? And, where do you find brushpiles around K-dock?! I usually fish down towards the AR line, but am tired of boating that far. Thanks for the report, I'm dying to get out there and catch some more. I caught 10 a couple weeks ago that were all nice blacks, 13 feet of water IN the brushpiles. Darn work getting in the way of my fishing.
crappiefisherman Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 15 to 20 feet down.Lots of brush with in 1 quarter mile of ramp. They are also big blacks and lonnnng white crappie.I ate them last nite and couldnt believe how thick the fillets where. Im sorry crappie ,but the brush piles I know of have been placed by mother nature and man.Mother nature usually leaves stumps.man leaves cinder blocks and cable to hang up on.I have seen some fresh chainsaw work on the banks.I believe this is against the law , but it is done.Remember they cant drag those trees to far out from the bank.so look where steep banks are and channel swings. And also I couldnt belive it but I caught most of the fish in an area that was covered in gar.Shad where so thick you couldnt get an accurate reading below 12 feet either [ [
Sam Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I've been talking about white bass and walleyes here and keeping quiet about the crappie, but yeah. I've been onto big Bull Shoals crappie off-and-on since January. Best of all, I've got 18 new brushpile locations there marked on my GPS this year. I've even copied those coordinates down in case my GPS conks out and I have to buy a new one - that's information too valuable to lose. And no, I'm not sharing - unless you're Shania Twain carrying a whole keg of Sam Adams Oktoberfest.
ColdWaterFshr Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Wouldja share with Paul Dallas and 24 gals that all answer by the name of Natalie Lyght?
Sam Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Wouldja share with Paul Dallas and 24 gals that all answer by the name of Natalie Lyght? Nope, this is a high-class outfit, here. I ain't settling for second best. None of my brushpiles are really secrets, they all get fished. Lots of guys know that lake better than I do, and I've seen crappie fishermen on all those spots at one time or another. It's helpful for me to have the coordinates, though, so I can go right to 'em without searching. Every trip I 'scope around some and try to find some more, too. Sooner or later we'll have a real low-water year, and when that happens I'll spend a lot of time with the boat and a 4-wheeler marking everything I can find on the bottom for future reference.
