Haven't seen a report from the area around Tan Vat in sometime. Just curious if anyone has fished it lately? Trying to make a trip up there sometime soon!

Havent been there but I'd expect some some good tiny fly activity in the AM this time of year...Trico's, small olives, little gray whispies in the AM..Usually 22's-28's for the....Terrestrials should be going good in the afternoons, possibly some caddis.

caught a nice bow just below tan vat midday on sunday august 23rd on a 14 deer hair caddis. Only fished for 30 minutes or so.

Fished Sat-Sun, Aug.15-16, did pretty well on Sunday below Tan Vat, two nymphs under the indicator. Caught a hefty brown in a deep run. It was a little cloudy that morning which helped.

Yeah... If your looking to fish dries, tiny tricos in the morning will be your best bet. Their really tiny, and the few times I've tried to fish that hatch I've had a difficult time. I just don't do well fishing dries that small. But if your into that kinda thing, you can take a few on top that way.

Woolly buggers and similar streamers always take more fish for me down there, when I'm fly fishing.

Of course a good old Panther Martin Spinner will outfish any of these. B)

I would have to disagree. The PM is good. But, during a hatch, or no hatch..... no chance!!!! A trout on a Fly rod is like 10 on a spinning rod. I used to lure fish when I was a young. growing up in MT. and caught many...Anyone can catch trout with lures.. Can you really honestly say that you would rather catch one on the short stick? the fight sucks.. bottom line... no challenge. To suceed with lures, on our smaller rivers takes some casting skill. Like 10 -15 minutes for the average spin fisherman-kid. :o

My son was a lure dude also. He slayed at 9 lol. He picked up the Long Rod at 12. Has never held the short stick since. He works at Feathercraft in St louis ,Mo. Teaches casting also. He is 23 and has caught many Huge trout, steelhead, kicks my butt usually :D What he does with a Fly Rod is magical. Simply blows my mind. He could guide anywhere. BUT WE DON"T LIKE PEOPLE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OUR LOCAL RIVERS, MAKING MONEY ON THE CURRENT-POTTER WHY WHY??? ITS JUST A SMALL RIVER. I HAVE BEEN FISHING THE CURRENT FOR MANY YEARS. THE CROWDS ARE GROWING EVERY YEAR  WE NEED TO STOP TELLING THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT OUR LIL GEM. Ok, its like this. So you say good ole PM will slay, below tan vat. So a guy reads it. He then gets some panther M's. He Fishes below Tan Vat. He hammers the water, Lure fishing is much faster, cuz your FIRST cast is it, might get lucky get the bigger browns in the hole to hit. THEN ITS MOVE ON, Lure guys will always put fish down..

OK, You fish down an hour later WTH? NO HITS?? HMM JUST SLAYED THE OTHER DAY? DUH>> WONDER WHY? LOL Then the Fly guy comes down, and gets action.:P

Seriously, thought what is up with the unusually high number of trolls on this site lately??? To come on on your first post, and for lack of a better way to put it, go on a snobbish, totally incoherent rampage, could be nothing else.

If you don't have anything worth saying to say, then you don't have to type anything.

Not very creative either, I might say...................

Now I was going to jump in on this but I really couldn't come up with any kind words to speak of maybe thats a good thing. P.S. don't get upset because Potter found away to make money doing what he loves doing, but you forgot to mention the other guides that work in that section of the river infact I have even thought about giving it a shot myself.
