Last year it was the early rain that really messed up flows all year. The weather has been odd this year. Summer seems to be winding down and fall will be here very soon. Does anyone want to make any bold predictions for the brown run this year? Earlier than usual due to cooler weather? Anyone think it will be more consistent than it was last year?

I am planning a 4 day trip down to Taney in mid September and then again in late October or early November. The early trip will probably be several weeks before we start seeing bigger fish moving. I hope the second trip gets me closer to some big fish up in the trophy area. Anyone else eagerly awaiting fall and digging some bigger streamers out of the back of the fly box?

When you can look any direction and see a monarch butterfly, the browns will be there. I do not think that this year will be a banner year for taney. There is a 3 year cycle that I have noticed over the years, and 08 was going to be the banner year. The flood gates and the rise in water temps brought that to a grinding halt. Although I did predicted earlier that it "will be" the banner year for arkansas. That is where I will invest my time this fall. I would venture to say that several 20 to 30 pound browns will come off of Libby Shoals this year. After the run starts on the little red, 10 pound fish won't even raise an eyebrow for the local fishermen. Good luck on your taney venture.

I agree.

Hope to see you set a new record for Arkansas!

I have already noticed an increase in the amount of browns I am catching this last week. I only fished from Lookout to just below fall creek though.
