Hit the Baron Fork on Sunday evening for the first time. I was wading on the Arkansas side near 59. Lots of fish in the water, but I only managed two smallies...bigger of the two was probably 12". Pulled both of them on a clouser minnow.

Has anyone else done any fly fishing on this stream? Just looking for some tips. I will be getting out there more in the coming weeks to try and figure out some more successful patterns.

I've fished several times under that 59 bridge. Last time, I took a little one-man pontoon and rowed up to the first gravel bar and riffle above the bridge, where there's a nice, deep run with a rocky bottom. Got a few smallies and a bunch of green sunfish up there. I always do best with craw patterns--near 'nuffs and crazydads--in brown. Always try buggers and minnow type patterns and always end up going back to the craws. There are a few very nice largemouths that lie under the down wood in the slow water around there too. I've caught (and released) a a few in the two-pound range.

PM me if you want to fish up there sometime.

Thanks for the heads up...crawfish patterns were next on my list :). I figured I would start with minnows (clouser), then move to crawfish (I agree, crazy-dads and near nuff are great), and, if that didn't work, I figured I would go to some big ugly leaches or something. I saw some nice large mouth in there as well. I will let you know next time I am headed that way.

Fished for a while under the 59 bridge on Saturday afternoon. The few smallies I got were out in the riffles, lying in little pockets in that bedrock bottom. Hard to fish it with the moss and stuff, but if you could swing a craw fly into a pocket without spooking the fish, you'd get one. Of course, they were all about eight inches long. Still fun, though.
