Members Champ Posted April 21, 2006 Members Posted April 21, 2006 What's the deal with the courtesy docks not being in the water at the state park boat ramp? Air temps are warm, water is warm, fish are biting, people are boating, why aren't things geared up for summer? Is the corp responsible for moving those docks? Heck, lakes don't freeze and the ramps are used year around, so ramps should remain open and docks in the water. BTW, crappie were scattered tonight, but the bass were close to shore and hitting on rubber aligators in long creek. We were fishing chunck rock shoreline in about 12 ft of water.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I haven't used them, but I'm not sure they will reach. From the water they look like they may be as far as they can go. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Bill Babler Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 All most all the ramp docks on the lake are COURTESY docks, and are not provided by the Corps or the Govt. They are provided by dock building companies. If they are a bit tardy in moving them for our convienence, at this water level, we may just have to put her on the bank. I'm just glad they work most of the time. I guess that's why the hamby bow and keel protector were invented. I know one time we fussed up at Shell Knob, and that was the end of the docks for the summer as they just sat there on the beach. Lets just keep a low profile and hope they will service them soon. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Members Champ Posted April 23, 2006 Author Members Posted April 23, 2006 Thanks for the info Bill, and I get your point. I know in another corp lake the docks were purchased by private individuals and maintained by the Corp. Thought it might be the same here. I just know it was the same deal last year. I was out there when someone pushed them back in the water last May and I thanked him (Don't remember what dept. he was from). Still not sure why they block off 3/4 of the ramp and pull the docks out every winter. Sure makes it a lot easier to load/unload passengers. I guess once I get used to the convienience, it's hard to do without.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 23, 2006 Root Admin Posted April 23, 2006 I put in there today... it looked like to me the water level is such that the ramp is unuseable where it's been blocked and the extention of the ramp is the same reason the docks aren't in the water- there's no ramp there. I didn't look that close but that's what I think.
