Gavin Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 The Current. Little Piney, and the wild trout creeks are the best wade water IMO...The Meramec is wadeable at times...usually if its flowing under 500cfs at Steelville, but much better when its under 300cfs or so...Youll severely handicap yourself if you dont have a boat on the 11pt, or NFoW...Tailwaters can be good to, but they are crowed and your subject to the whims of the dam operators. Look on MDC's page and youll find plenty of access points. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/fish/sport/trout/areas.htm
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I'm not sure why you would drive pass Bennett and the Niangua? There are some good access on the Niangua and it generally isn't that crowded. One way to fish it would be to camp at Ho Humm, good fishing at the campground, and rent a canoe from them. Use the canoe to visit the good wading waters from 64 to the campground. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
MaxDrown Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Really good information here. Thanks for sharing! Eventually we'll try all of these places. I will say that we are more interested in "remote" places. The less people (non-fishers) we see the better. -- Max Drown
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 You might consider Roubidoux creek, I don't think it gets a lot of attention. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
MaxDrown Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 It looks like it's going to be kinda cold this week and a couple of my guys don't have waders. Are there some places we could spend fishing from the shore without getting in the water? -- Max Drown
mhall02 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Roaring River is a good no-wade type of trout fishing. Go to the fly zone during the week and you won't see too many folks, I bet you would see even less in the catch and release. I think think the C & R is the only place you can wade. Long haul from Columbia, 4+ hours one way. Used to live in Monett (25 miles or so north of RR) and the travel from Mizzou to Monett was about 4 hours, back when the speed limit was 55 on Hwy 65.
brownieman Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Don't know about some of the places but upstream and downstream from Cedar Grove on the Current can be fished some from the bank but without waders a guy is really limited. Upstream from Cedar Grove is about the longest strech I know of...may have to get a little wet but you can hit the water for quite a ways staying on the north side of the river. One more spot would be on the Current from the lower boundary of Montauk to Tan Vat...You can stay on the north side of the river the whole strech and hit quite a bit of the water...you can fish more water with spinning gear as opposed to fly fishing due to difference in casting methods. The little Piney off hwy 63 could possibly produce some bank fishing but it's been several years since I have been there. The older I get the more that dreaded disease CRS (Can't remember s$$t) is affecting me. Oh well, goes along with the turf I reckon. Hope this helps you a little, good luck wherever you end up at. later on bm My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 You can rent waders at Bennett. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
