Am in Texas visiting Sara and Josh and Jeriah. I'm heading back Wednesday - Marsha is staying a week.

When I left home it was 51 degrees. It was 80 when we arrived at 1 am. Big diff!

Sorry- this hasn't been "daily" ramblings...

Since I've been gone, the Corp has decided to run water AHEAD of rains forecasted for the area.

The floods of 08 changed the way the Corps run water - you noticed? Even during the heavy rains in March and April of 08, we all were wondering why the Corp wasn't running water ahead of rains or forecasted rains - remember? We said they don't run water unless the water is THERE and needs to be moved.

Now, it's different. They ran 100 mw all day today and will run 150 mw tomorrow, according to their schedule. That's above their self-imposed limit of 110 mw, due to low DO. With 150 mw, they'll have to inject alot of O2. Thank goodness the temp is low - 50 degrees.

The rain missed Branson for the most part. We didn't get the hard rains but just north and west of us did. We'll have to watch Table Rock's level here in the next 24 hours and see what it does. It's been steadily dropping the last 5 days.

If you didn't see my other post, it looks like Table Rock's level is on the way up... way up. Cresting at 927 on the 13th of October is the COE's guess- that's Tuesday. That's higher that I thought it'd be. May be it's a liberal guess and it won't get there. And I guess that's with 20,000 cfs being released up through Tuesday. That's alot of water!

This happened last September. I wasn't here but heard it was very hard on the trout. BUT last year our water temp was in the mid 60's coming through the turbines and higher over the top. Water at higher temps falling 200 feet generate less O2 and more nitrogen (I believe) and that's even harder on trout, especially browns. That's why we MAY have fewer browns this year.

So this event won't be bad at all, I think. Fishing below Lookout, I think the O2 will be real good and so will fishing. It will be high and fast for sure. Dangerous - not really. Just stay in the middle, DO NOT ANCHOR, and use enough weight to get to the bottom.

I really think with all the shad taht are in Table Rock right now, we should see some shad come over the flood gates and that would be awesome!!

I'll get out tomorrow and report back.

This rambling thing isn't working out very well.... not rambling enough.

One thing I've noticed today as the gates shut down is that the water isn't clearing up at all. It's still pretty chalky color.

I'm heading up here in a little bit to see what it looks like above Fall Creek. Will report back.

Got out from 2-4:30 this afternoon. Drifted from dam to Fall Creek but mainly stayed from Lookout down. Sculpin and white 1/8th oz jigs. Scuds and San Juans on the bottom. Caught a few, very slow for us. Didn't see many others catching either including 3 guide boats.

BUT our guests reported having a very good day catching rainbows with Gulp eggs from Fall Creek down today.

A very good day.

I should have stopped and told you what we were doing. Conservatively 40+ fish, probably closer to 50! A couple Fedes, but Mostly 13-14", At first it was mostly me drifting a #10 gray scud. Besides the 13-14 inch fish I caught several 15-16". Nick was using a gray & white jig and catching about 1 to every 4 or 5 of mine. The last two drifts from the ramp at the hatchery to Fall Creek he changed to a solid white. He started catching a lot more, and they turned off on the scud. Then just below Lookout it caught a butiffull 18 " Rainbow. Full of color and fight. I switched to the white jig and started catching fish again on our last drift. All together we had 7 fish over 15" including the 18" that Nick caught. More fish but smaller size from the dam to Lookout, fewer bites but bigger fish from Lookout to Fall Creek. Of course, I left the camera in the truck! Nick did take some pics with his cell phone, We'll see how they come out.

Thanks for your report. Sounds like you had some fun.

Camera's are bad luck, best left in the truck. ;)

The only good line is a tight line

We were using smaller scuds - my thought since the water was slower, smaller would be better. No so.

Glad you guys did well. It was a beautiful day to be out, regardless if you're catching fish or not.

Went out from 1:30 to 3:30. Drifted once from Lookout to Fall Creek and used a scud with shooting line - fly rod rig and didn't do well. Caught a couple but just didn't feel like I was getting a good drift.

Back up to Lookout- really Andy's house- and started there this time with a spin cast, split shot and a #10 peppy (gray) scud. Caught 12 rainbows- the last 2 just before Fall Creek. Switched to night crawlers and they wouldn't leave them alone. Went thru 9 crawlers and landed only 3 rainbows before Short Creek. They were sucking on it - couldn't get a hook in 'em. Lost a couple after hooking them.

15 rainbows one drift. Missed lots on the scud and more on the crawler.

They are biting, at least this afternoon.

Going back out and trying something different.

They are still running the equivalent of 1.75 units. Drift is great- not many boats out. Water temp is 53 and not as stained as it has been.
