Max, A few staples for high, off colored trout water are a weighted Amber (or Ginger) colored leech pattern, a tan Muddler fished on a sink tip line, a red or white San Juan worm, or a Glo-ball/Y2K bug.

Trizkid, the river will be fine by tomorrow unless we get some unexpected precipitation. At 265 cfs, it's in pretty darn good shape now. It'll be a touch high and discolored, but that just serves to make the fish a little more frisky.

It's amazing how quickly the headwaters of the Current rises and falls... It seems like it's almost never out of commission for more than one or two days. Unless I'm wrong, that's a sign of a healthy watershed.

Hey Max,

Better post back up and let us know how you did or I'm gonna think you got in trouble or something, lol.

Just curious if you found the place ok and if you had any luck...hope it all went ok for you all.

We didn't get back until very late on Saturday and had church this morning. So, I'm reporting back as soon as I could!

The trip was a total blast. We had a great time. The river looked high and murky. We only caught two trout and two shiners. We tried a bunch of different wet and dry flies. I'm sure the fish are there, but we didn't know how to get to them. We fished half the day right outside of the park and the second day at Tan Vat. All three of us ended up having waders, thank goodness. I'll post some photos asap.

Hey Max

I can tell by the pics you found both places alright, that's cool. It's a nice area even if you didn't catch many fish.

The hole right in front of the cabin is generally chunked full of stockers from the park and I have hung a few nice browns there also. Like I said I'm no great fly fisherman but what little I do know looks like that kind of water would make it touph.

It's just right for my style...if I felt better I would get my butt down there and froth the water with a 5 1/4 inch balsa streamer. The bright sunny days are nice for fishing but not good for the bite...seems like with the big browns the nastier the weather the better they bite. Cloud cover and a falling or low barometer are imo the best conditions.

Like Gavin stated, the conditions I just mentioned and catching the river on the rise is the perfect time to hit it. I have the luxury of living close and can take advantage of that...living a couple of hours from the river makes it touph to hit it perfect.

That alone is probably why I've caught my share of nice ones...the only guarantee when it comes to fishin is 'If you aint there, you aint gonna catch em'...thats a given.

Anyway, glad you had a decent time and hopefully you've added another option to your places to go...that's always worth something, ya know.
