ozark trout fisher Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 We didn't get back until very late on Saturday and had church this morning. So, I'm reporting back as soon as I could! The trip was a total blast. We had a great time. The river looked high and murky. We only caught two trout and two shiners. We tried a bunch of different wet and dry flies. I'm sure the fish are there, but we didn't know how to get to them. We fished half the day right outside of the park and the second day at Tan Vat. All three of us ended up having waders, thank goodness. I'll post some photos asap. The trout are definitely there at the Current ( I think the last time they shocked the Blue Ribbon area they brought up something like 500 trout per mile, one of the better numbers in Missouri), but they can play hard to get from time to time. It's odd. Sometimes I'll go down there and catch a whole bunch, and then the next time, with seemingly the same conditions I'll get down there and only catch a couple. I guess that's just fishing though. Also, with the river as high as it is based on your pics, that would complicate things further. Just one thing to know... The Current isn't normally like that. Usually, it's pretty small and gin clear, totally a different river than you found it yesterday. Normally by Fall, the Current that far upstream isn't really much more than a creek. It's a pretty little thing, ain't it?

Wayne SW/MO Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Aye, it was a perfect day on a beautiful river. That's what really counts. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Gavin Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Looks like it was rolling pretty good....You need to get your fly down when its like that and use something they can see, black bugger, white streamer, pink worm, clown egg, etc......a couple AAA's or some SSG sized shot will usually do the trick. Glad you had fun and better luck next time.

Glad you had fun and better luck next time. We did try to do that. In fact, I lost quite a few flies to snags on the bottom. It's very possible I didn't have the proper "action" on the flies tho. -- Max Drown
