Getting out in the winter is important to anglers. Bass fishing is pretty good on lakes and streams, depending on where you live but trout fishing is great in the winter.

Tournaments are a good excuse to get out. They’re fun. We have a lot of fun hosting them and have some great guys and gals who fish them year after year.

The format are pretty simple. Two person teams start fishing at 8 am and come in to weigh in their catch at 4 pm. They are allowed to weigh in 4 trout each. All of our trout tournaments are restricted to lures and flies only - no soft plastic baits, no live bait. We award the top four teams with a percentage of the purse as well as trophies and a plaque, in the Masters Tournament.

We always see some of the best catches of rainbows of the year in the winter, it seems. Winter fishing, I’ve always said, is the best time to fish Lake Taneycomo.

Let us know if you have any questions. If you want to fish one of the contests, here is a couple of links to the Team and Masters Tournament information.

Phil: How many will brave the 6 degree low and 27 degree high this saturday? Just curious. I'm young and I'm chilled to the bone just thinking about it.

I would up for fishing in the cold, just concerned about the launching conditions with ice forming on the ramp.

Not sure... less than we would if it were a decent winter day I'm sure. These forecasts including cold, snow and now ice are killing us! But that's the way it is.

I told someone today at lunch, I sure liked Global Warming... while we had it!

We'll have to see on the ramps. We do our best to keep them clear. A couple of weeks ago we stacked bags of ice-melt next to the ramp at Cooper for people to use when pulling in and out. We'll do the same this week-weekend.

Sometimes the pain of fishing in the extreme cold has it's greatest rewards.. BIG FISH!

I'm fishing in the team tournament next month, Can't wait.. sometimes the nastier the weather the better the fishing

at least thats what I try to keep telling myself

Both of the tournaments last year had snow and ice but there was still a decent turnout. It definately makes for interesting fishing when the temps are that far below freezing. It seems like alot of the people in the past were staying at Lilley's and were from out of town so you can probably count on those people still fishing it.
