ozark trout fisher Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Well, I know this might cause some argument, but at least it might be more of the good-natured type. So, what's your favorite trout stream in the country you've actually fished, all things considered... Doesn't include your "home river". Personally, I'll have to go with the White River in Colorado. Big native cutts, low fishing pressure, great scenery, and good access. Pretty hard to beat.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 13, 2009 Root Admin Posted October 13, 2009 Flaming Gorge Tailwater... the Green River. Spectacular rock walls, torrent water, pockets full of large trout taking small dries and midge flies. Second choice would have to be the Naknek River, beads and leeches and 35 inch monster rainbows (and bears).
Gavin Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Its a toss up between the Yellowstone or the Madison.
Members Zach Beach Posted October 13, 2009 Members Posted October 13, 2009 Had a chance to fish the Flathead River in Whitefish, Montana this last weekend, it was amazing. The scenery was spectacular with the snow capped mountains right beside the river. No one else on that section of the river. The guides in town told me that it was off limits to them, so I would pretty much have the river all to myself. I caught some nice rainbows around 18" and a couple of cutthroats. I would definately recommend this place.
Buckshotdad1960 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 What about Rock creek in Montana? It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before! People come from all around the world to fish it. Here’s a tip though, the creek is full of fool’s gold so just concentrate on the fishing! LOL Plus out west especially they have a thing called piss fever. That’s where the Beaver pee in the water and cause a parasite to get in the fish, so if you eat the fish make sure their well cooked. Never drink unboiled water from the stream or you can get it that way too. The parasite lodges in your intestines and shuts them down. A few pills from the doc cures it right up. Watch out for Bears, this place is a wild life Mecca! The ferny bottoms of this creek make you feel as though you have stepped back in time to the beginning of creation. This creek splits into multiple streams with pockets so deep and clear you can count the rocks at the bottom in 30’of water. Tell a thousand funny jokes and no one remembers! Tell one bad one and no one forgets!
tippet7 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I dont know that I would be able to pick just one. I would have to go with the San Juan in New Mexico because it is a beautiful place to fish, great fishing, GREAT food at Abes, but it was the place that my dad, me and my brother would meet each year for a week of fishing and just the 3 of us hanging out. It was also the last place the 3 of got to fish together before my dad passed away. Great memories from the San Juan. There may be bigger and better trout streams to catch fish, but I if I have learned nothing else in my lifetime, it isnt always about the catching. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
flyfishmaster Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I have to say the Williams Fork in Colorado. The stream is just over 2 miles long but to me it equals "solitude". Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Buckshotdad1960 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 So true Tippet7! The best trout stream or any other stream for that matter is the one you enjoy the most. The time we spend here on earth is not nearly long enough to enjoy all it has to offer. Though we die in the flesh, no one truly dies until after the great white throne judgment. All those that pass away we shall see again. Personally, I feel the best days for you three are yet to come. P.S. What in the heck ever possessed you to live in Hollister? Run! Get out! Move away! LOL Taney County sucks! Tell a thousand funny jokes and no one remembers! Tell one bad one and no one forgets!

LOL Taney County sucks! I was working for the Vail Colorado police department in 2001 when a very close friend of mine was killed in the line of duty, on a call that I had sent him to. I know things happen and all that, but I had a lot of guilt over his death, he left a wife and a baby girl that was about 6 months old. My dad retired down here and he convinced me to come down and try the trout fishing here. Met my beautiful, wonderful Stephanie(who hates fishing by the way) and I have been here since. My dad passed away in March of 2002, only 8 months after me moving down here. But I got to spend that time with him, hunting, fishing and swapping lies. Had I not moved here, I would never have been able to spend that quality time with him. My brother and I made a trip to the San Juan in 2004, put some of dads ashes in his favorite hole. picture of me and my dad fishing a small stream in PA, around 1968 Dad You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
